I hit a cat and cracked the front bumper cover on my 23 GT2. The first body shop I took the car to claims the radar needs to be recalibrated after a new bumper cover is connected. They charge $500 for this, which is 1/4 of the total bill. Is this BS?

ETA: My Kia dealer, which has a body shop, told me connecting a bumper cover does NOT require a calibration. Calibration is only required if the sensor was damaged or moved out of alignment by the collision, which can't be determined until the cover is removed.

I agree with the dealer. If the radar in no way shape or form was hit, damaged, or moved then there is no calibration needed.

dealer is correct
body shop is looking for an easy $500

How big was the feline?
did the cat impact directly to the radar sensor/grill?

I have had my bumper cover off - a few times - never needed any Radar calibration.

It was a medium size cat, about 10-15 lbs. Hit the bumper on the passenger side of the bumper, making 2 hairline cracks.

The second body shop did not include a cost for recalibration in its estimate.

That's because, there is no recalibration required.

Calibration can only be done at the dealership. Cost me $570. Insurance paid the bill

The sensors basically calibrates itself...

See attached.

New bumper cover getting installed next week. Can anyone confirm that the front bumper cover does not have any holes for the KIA badge on the 23 GT2? My 18 GT2 had holes.

I believe that to be true - but can't confirm
I have seen images online....- no holes on the newer models
