Got a non correctable VC 27151 for modified exhaust today and have to take it too a state ref, I've been searching online and can not find a straight answer. So hopping someone here has gone through this...

Question is are they only going to measure the sound on the exhaust and call it a day, or will they check everything and I should change everything back to stock (mid-pipes, intakes, etc).

Also will it cause a problem if they see that the mufflers have been cut and put back on?

Oh man... sorry to hear that.

What kind of exhaust do you have on your car? Is it a loud one like Borla? Were you pulled over for something else and the officer wrote that one as well or did you just get pulled over for exhaust modification?

I understand that it is not a fix-it ticket. Did you get fined right away and have to revert back to stock of you don't meet 95db?

I'm also in So Cal. Orange County area with a cat back and exhaust tips, so sharing your experience will be helpful.

Thanks

Running muffler delete with ark mid pipes, was pulled over for "speeding". Wrote me a ticket for that and modified exhaust, basically came to the window ask for my information and came back with the ticket. Never looked under the car or hood at all. Had asked me if it was stock after he had it on the ticket already.

From what the cop told me was I would have to go get it state reffed. Which I've now learned the car will have to be 100% stock or fail. (No tint, intakes, catch can, etc..) But I've come to learn that there's two forms of this ticket, there is a correctable where you go to a station and get it written off (as long as the officer deems it quiet enough) and pay like a 20$ fee. Or you get state reffed and are force to a testing facility and get a compliance certificate and hope the judge still doesn't want to fine you after you paid the 108$ testing fee.

So....why not just swap everything back to stock before going in to see the ref?

Sometimes I hate this state. I haven't been written up for mods but I have for speeding. Get a radar detector and avoid the confrontation. Also I am planning to register my car out of state, because Cali really hates it's car people
