BMW owner ogling my Stinger

I bought my stinger to brag its a Kia yes you heard it this Kia's halo so what's wrong with bragging it's it's Kia? Stupid people forget Hundia/kia are the 5th car maker on the plantet.... people need to stop living in 1980. I have had way more problems and headaches with German and American cars than with my Korean cars I have owned.
To me, that kind of 'bragging' is about the actual features of the car - it's design, engineering, build quality, performance, and value for the price. These are tangible things that can be seen, felt, and measured.

So many people who buy the usual Ger-mahn suspects (Beemer, Benz, Por-shuh) either could care less or just don't know anything about the actual physical and performance characteristics of their cars. They just buy them for the perceived snob appeal of owning an expensive German car, just to be able to name drop.

Obviously I think the Stinger is a much better deal, because I bought one. I think it's superior in all those characteristics to a BMW, and I couldn't care less what anyone thinks of the name on the trunk lid. That's now why I buy cars.

A friend of mine was showing me his recently acquired CLA250 that he bought new. He liked the look of mine but then went on to tell me that his car had a bigger displacement engine and was overall faster...

I asked him how a turbo 4 cylinder engine with 220HP was faster or bigger than what's in my stinger. The funny part is with options he paid $50k for it.

Nice enough car but the same price as a stinger (and with less options) but faster? nope

One of the beauties of the Stinger and a chief reason I got one is that it's a sleeper car. I would argue that it's THE sleeper car right now. Nobody looks at the badge and thinks "That's a fast car!" It's a sedan which doesn't scream "Fast car!" to the uneducated, which makes up most of world. It's very easy to be subtle and discreet with the car. It's easy to blend in to the crowd (maybe not so much with the SUV craze. Anything that isn't 6' tall is becoming an oddity). But then when given the chance, it can really shine.

When it comes to a car that does everything well, the sleeper car is what I think of. It can be humble and show off. That's a rare trick.

I got "banned" from one of the Supra forums yesterday for pretty much this reason! Even though I now have a Supra, I still "look out" for the Stinger and someone made a "how crappy" comment about the "Hyundia Stinger" (partially true but crossed my line none the less....)

So, I put the dude in his place and got banned as a result......LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. that site is full of nothing but whiny 2-yr olds who are still complaining about not being able to unlock the '21 Supra ECU's but YET, keep buying them?????????????????????????????????

Keep rolling Stinger owners and I will keep telling the haters to "F/O".:D

You're absolutely right, and hit the nail on the head: the Stinger is a true sleeper. Being humble but can show off. Exactly.

It's the essence of why I bought the car. It doesn't 'scream' anything. It quietly offers a unique combination of design, engineering, build quality, performance, comfort (the car journalists seem to like to call it 'near luxury'), and value for what you get.

Yet so few people seem to know about it, or buy one. Even after 5 years on the market, BMW owners ogle it and ask 'who makes it?". You'd think after 5 years, owners of cars Kia considers direct competitors and positions itself against would know about it. But they don't.

There are cars like this that have come along once in a while, truly great cars that are underappreciated and don't sell well, and usually are discontinued after a short time. The 2001-2003 Acura CL, especially the 2003 6 speed manual. The original Infiniti G35 Coupe. Mazda RX8. Honda S2000. Hindsight being 20/20, some are now getting the attention they lacked when they were still in production (especially the S2000, it didn't sell all that well when new, but lately has become a hot 'collector's item'). I think the same will happen with the Stinger. It may not be built for much longer (if the rumors are true), but in the future, more people will probably look back and wonder why it didn't do better.

Of course, by definition if you're on this forum, you appreciate it already. We get to enjoy it now. Our gain, their loss.

BMW interiors are just blah more of the same regurgitated design boring and bland. Also the new pig nose grills are just disgusting.

When I decided I was probably never going to move my 5th wheel again, an F-250 made no sense as a daily driver. On top of that, Ford service had deteriorated to they point where they shouldn't be trusted to work on a soap box car, much less something with an engine. After a lot of shopping and research and talking to owners, I decided on a Kia Soul. Traded for one (and got a huge check). I live in deep south Texas and with about 5,000 miles on the car decided to go on a trip to Washington state, across to Iowa, down to Missouri and back to Texas. On my way through Cheyenne WY it needed an oil change, so while they were doing it I wandered the lot and ran across a Stinger GT2. Wow, really impressive. Looked at the sticker - WOW I WANT THIS. Loved the Soul, but . . . .

Got home and went Stinger shopping. Dealers had no interest in selling a Stinger at all they were crazy. Months went by and occasionally I would go browse dealers on line. Finally a dealer picked that up and called me. They actually wanted to sell one. I told them exactly what I wanted and explained that a dealer 200 miles away had THE one I wanted on their lot and it had been there for months. No problem, the dealer that had it was the son-in-law of the dealer that had called me. He got it in a couple of days, detailed it and it was ready to go.

On my way (in the Soul) to pick it up, 2 blocks from the dealer I got a robo phone call. From the dealer I got the Soul from, wishing me a happy anniversary because it was one year to the day since I bought the Soul.

I loved the car when I got it. Even more now. I remain convinced it will become a collector's item and will be worth more than I paid for it, no matter how long I keep it. Yeah, the rotten incompetent Kia service is a problem, but I can live with it, especially now that someone on this forum told me there is a Kia dealer in Mexico (a few miles closer than my dealer in Texas).

It's funny because when I had my E36 (which I spent about $5k total between the car itself and the repairs to get it running after buying it) people assumed I had money or came from money to afford a "BMW sportscar!" as an 18 year old (18 and a half). The irony was kids who were graduating and getting brand new base model Civics and Corollas were driving more expensive cars than myself.

People see BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi, etc... they just assume status and wealth. It's how the "snobs" enjoy the image. Go buy a used or high-mileage German car and impress the masses. I remember my good friend's sister just picked up an E92-335i Coupe for less than $10k and my gf was asking how could a 21 year old afford a BMW "like that?!?" since it had a solid wrap and exhaust on it. People don't know unless you explain. Some just don't care.

But I agree... I rather purchase something for what it offers (performance, technology, feel, etc.) rather than the badge. But then again it took me 5 years of saving to buy a base model 2020 Stinger GT and even that was a bit of a budget stretch. I am not ashamed to admit that lmfao. :p

Its out of control now with how much trucks cost. All the people with 70+K trucks at work think I must be loaded since I drive something like a Stinger. Trucks are the new cadillac.

Based on what?
Life (long) experience.
A career in process improvement and in teaching process improvement and in particular improving the process of strategic planning.
Several vehicles and other things I have owned have become classics and each of them have had qualities in common with the Stinger.
A summary of the comments, in this thread alone, by owners.
The many other threads I have been reading for 4 years on this forum.
The state of the world, in especially the world economy and the current USA administration.
The issue of climate change.
The issue of electric vehicles
A.I. and the changes it will bring, want them or not.
FSD vehicles
The difficulty of designing, building and maintaining fusion reactors vs using the one we already have available.
Every other milestone I can see and how it relates to the Stinger.
This is already too long; I must stop, but I could do this all day.

One thing you forgot tho…

It’s a Kia.

Good summary man. I still believe the Stinger has created "some" brand awareness for Kia. It will become known as a milestone car for the brand in the coming years after it ends (if?). I just wish they went the whole damn hog and did a full blown supercar halo version, like the GT-R is to Nissan, for a true cult car status/beginning. Before the electric car fully ushers in our new car future. Still glad I have one. It's a gem, I will hold onto for while.
I keep messaging Kia to come out with a supercar or at least M3 Competition level version as a GT3, with ALL the toys, and I'll buy one. I also keep suggesting they get the GT2 into rental fleets as a premium car next to the Audis, Mercs, and Bimmers so the car gets more exposure.

The EV 6 GT has super car performance already. And anyone will be able to buy one.

This is very different from my experience, as I find the Stinger is an attention magnet--including the F&F crowd. Around these parts, I frequently get revved on, thumbs ups, sneered at, waved at, confused looks, paced for blocks at a time--you name it. Mustangs, Optimas, E9x, F30s, TLXs, Q60s/G37/5s, a Maserati twice in the same area on different days...really all manner of vehicles.

When I went shopping for my second Stinger three years later, I figured maybe some of the novelty would have worn off, but nope. On the way home from the dealership, sure enough, an A6 alternated between pacing me and jumping forward to see if I would bite. I'm not sure how many of these folks notice the badge, as I haven't talked to any of them. I get the impression that they do think it's a fast car, or it's trying to pass itself off as one.

A Chevy SS that most people mistake for a Malibu...to me, that's a sleeper.

Yes. The Stinger is really beautiful from every angle...but almost overdone, if not overdone a little. It's no sleeper.
