Bizarre Tire Issue or Bad Luck

Yes you can potential crack summer tires, the compound, in freezing cold temps
 
That's the worst flat luck I've heard about!:eek: But I agree on the "contamination" theory. Here's a pic of what I picked up on a walk a few years ago. If I, or somebody else, had not picked these up, just imagine how many flat tires would have resulted from just this one dropped box of screws!?

Summer tires have no place in Michigan between November and April....
 
Have you ever run summer tires up there? I live in NC and with even our mild winters my tires turn into hockey pucks on the cold days. Many agree that you can actually damage a summer tire driving in 0F temps. That was my only reasoning for suggesting the all-seasons over the summer tires.
I find the Nokian WRG4’s I have here in NC to be very planted on the winter roads and still corner well. Plus, they can be run year round if wanted.

I've run PS4S tires in temperatures as low as 20F and did not notice a dangerous reduction in grip while driving sensibly, i.e. trying to corner carefully and at moderate/reduced speeds. And they grip well enough either side of freezing to not be a risk; we are talking about wet or dry, not iced up. But I'm into my second winter on my UHP Nitto Motivo A/S and am very happy with them. They won't corner at the edge of grip like a Michelin UHP summer tire, but almost. I've been in southern Cali all week and they are very happy tires down here. When I go home to the snow and cold tomorrow, I will be confident that they will hold traction if I drive properly. :thumbup:
 
Sorry to hear about your bad luck - I thought I had bad luck. For the past 4-5 years, I've 3-4 flats a year due to screws/nails.. No one else in the family has gotten even ONE. Crazy. Been a bit better lately, though...

Agree that those nitto’s are good tires. Unfortunately with RWD I wanted something a little more forgiving of my bad habits. Did some parking lot grip tests on the Nokians in the 1” of snow we did have once and they really stuck well.
 
I have a set of Bridgestone Potenza re97as-02’s (225/45r18) on my Stinger Gt2 AWD. I believe these tires are straight from the factory. So far I’m 3 weeks and 1,500 miles into owning the car and I’ve experienced 5 flats from picking up nails, metal chunks, etc. Has anyone else with these tires experienced similar? Is it possible this is a result of the compound? Should I be looking for signs of sabotage? Or is it just a case of extremely bad luck?

I’ve been in the auto industry for 17 years, I’ve never seen anything like this. Over the past year I’ve put 30,000 miles on my F150 and only experienced 1 flat from a bearing that took a shit at a carwash. I travel for work and visit the same facilities and deal with the same people, so I don’t believe it’s sabotsge.

I can’t even enjoy the car, I’ve been having to stop constantly to add air my tires, so I can wait at a tire shop for an hour. It’s been extremely frustrating! I also have two tires on order due to 2 of the patches being in a questionable location.
Sounds like haters to me. It only takes one twisted dick head.
 
To get the best experience out of any tire it is important to use different tires specified for that particular season. A ultra high performance tire for summer and a dedicated snow tire in winter. All season tires don’t really preform exceptionally well in any season.

But an A/S will give satisfactory experience in all seasons. :D "Exceptional experience" is for demanding fanatics, which most drivers are not, most of the time. :P

I had a 2022 Stinger that would consistently get flats. When the tire pressure alert appeared, I knew I had a minute to pull over or I'd be stuck in the middle of the road. Very poor alert system. I now have a 2023 Stinger and am having the exact same problem. I do not drive in construction areas. I drive to work, store, outings with friends. Because of my experience with my first Stinger, I got the tire package with my new one.

Upon examination, what was the cause for the flat? Was an object discovered that penetrated the tire?
If so, just bad luck. My bad luck is with windshields. Every time I get a new (at least to me) car, seems I get a rock that chips or cracks it within a couple weeks.
