Hello community,

I am a fraud living amongst you as I have yet to purchase a Kia Stinger. Maybe this thread can help me figure out the right time to buy.

I am looking for a used 2018, bought outright, and thinking that January/February would be the best time to buy a RWD sports sedan. Spring would arguably be the worse time, due to higher demand. However, there is a second train of thought to this.

The Stinger has shot up in popularity in recent months/year which brings a bigger demand to the used Stinger market compared to other sedans. This might only increase in coming months. Also, a lot of 2018/2019 Stingers are coming back from leases between now and the end of the year, which would increase the Stinger supply. Question is, will winter time not be the best simply because the supply might be too low as these end-of-lease cars get gobbled up. I assume the vast majority of leases start in the fall, and therefore end 2-3 years later in the fall?

What do you guys think?

I think that the complex of your desire for THIS car and your budget decides for you. I read about the Stinger all winter and then went in for the "fatal" test drive at the beginning of (solar) spring, and bought mine three days later. I didn't even think about anything else but my "must haves" short list (3.3L, HK surround sound and sunroof); the price was fair and we could afford to pay in cash if that was the best course (ended up leasing and doing buyout three months later, after learning about it here). So, nobody can tell you the best time to get a Stinger, or whether to get one at all.

The best time to buy is as soon as you can afford it!

Sorry if that's flippant, but the sooner you buy, the sooner you enjoy owning! You could wait and eventually they get cheaper, but you have missed the opportunity to have an extra month, 2, 3 or more, without the car sat on your drive, or with you behind the wheel!

Whatever you decide, I hope you enjoy!

Problem is the 2018 as a used car market price is still too high from what i have seen. 32% drop in depreciation and I am not seeing those prices reflect that. Maybe when 2021 get me here but I doubt it since it will essentially be a 4 year old car.

They're holding their value well, which isn't a bad thing. I'm seeing around a 20-25% discount from 2018 MSRP on the regular GT models. One thing to mention though is the mileages are almost always lower than the national average of 15k/year. That also contributes.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
The GT first went on sale in January of 2018. The 3 year lease returns should start flooding the market then.

... by that impeccable line of thinking, all used Stingers are abused and there's never a good time to buy one. You might be on the wrong thread.

And they all have been abused since then.

It was sarcasm. It is what my BMW friends all say (most of them). I could care less because they do it all the time too (well most of them).

They are trying hard to dissuade me from getting one. Good luck to them with that. LOL.

How many of them have taken that fatal Stinger test drive? Talk is cheap.

2 out of 10. Rest of them have that hardcore “it’s a freaking KIA” mentality however they have been BMW owners for 20+ years now.
Plus it doesn’t help to live near where BMW is built too. BMW’s everywhere it’s crazy.
