Hi All,

Not sure if this is the best place to post this one but please redirect if needed!

So the stop/start hasn’t been working on my Stinger GTS for a few weeks and whilst it was in for a service yesterday I asked about it, apparently the battery charge isn’t high enough for the car to use the function - battery condition is fine but because I use the car infrequently it’s not enough to maintain the level of charge needed.

I’m not too fussed about it to be honest but I just wondered what would happen if I removed the battery to charge inside the house, unfortunately the parking space is too far away to have it on a trickle charger etc so will have to remove it. Would it lose settings etc or cause any issues if the battery was removed for a day or two?

Thanks
Dale

you LIKE the Stop/Start? i disabled it immediately ... besides being annoying, puts wear on the starter and battery.

can you use a friend's/relative's garage to charge it? removing the battery is kind of a PITA, and you might lose a bunch of settings, and this car has s lot of settings ...

Oh no I don’t like the stop start and am not remotely bothered about it not working, my concern was more around me causing damage to the battery by not maintaining enough charge or eventually flattening the battery.

Unfortunately where I am there is a distinct lack of people with drives/garages for me to use

you could just..... go for a drive!
Sounds like your battery is fine.

there are SEVERAL conditions that prevent stop/start from working. See my post here.

or better yet, this post/thread with even more details

I can almost guarantee - they just guessed - with zero diagnosis.
state of charge is just ONE of the required condition.

I was wrong once before.... when it turned out I was incorrect, about being wrong.

Not to mention exessive engine wear caused by insufficient oil from the repeated stop and starts.

There is plenty of oil available thus no additional wear to the cylinders/pistons.

The oil is not being pumped with the engine not running and there is instant load upon start up. Sure it's not extreme, but there certainly would be addition wear.

I second that...and add... (Copied from a website)

Journal bearings operate in the boundary regime (metal-to-metal contact) only during the startup and shutdown of the equipment when the rotational speed of the shaft (journal) is insufficient to create an oil film. It is during startup and shutdown when almost all of the damage to the bearing occurs

It all makes sense, as mentioned I am not really bothered about it working at all, my only concern would be if the level dropped to such a point as to being unable to start the engine, that and having a low charge causing premature battery failure over time

Did they test the battery SoC? (State of charge)

Or did they just pick first plausible condition for the ISG not to work, and ran with that.. zero diagnosis.

I wasn't there, so I don't know, but I believe you may be chasing a problem, that doesn't exist.

They did say the charge was low on the battery, however, I had done 300 miles in the week and a half prior to the diagnosis so I reckon they did no diagnosis and just said that - as I say, it doesn’t bother me that it doesn’t work I was just curious as to why it isn’t as I can happily live without it
