I brought my car to my detailing guy to have the badges removed and have the E badges placed and the Script Stinger for the rear. As he was using the 3m adhesive remover wheel some of the paint came off where the GT AWD badges were! He has never had this happen! He is going to try to touch it up but if it doesn’t look right he will have to put those badges back.. The paint on these Stingers really is weak.

The paint isn't the greatest but so many people have got their emblems on with no problem. They should really fix that paint to your satisfaction.

I am hopeful, I was there watching when it happened and it didn’t take much for it to come off

The rear hatch area with the badges is not metal its fiber glass it may not hold up to the friction of those wheels ?? , my rears came of with fishing line quite easily with a bit of heat from a hair dryer , the glue residue cleaned up with some Goof Off ,sorry for your misfortune

having done this previously and removed stickers and emblems from other vehicles, yes the paint is delicate on these cars. However the 3M wheel is much too abrasive for this type of job, a good detailer always starts using the least abrasive method and works his way up depending on the results. Hopefully he is able to blend the touch up with the factory paint.

THIS. Exactly how I feel. I would have not used the wheel.

I've removed decals and badges from so many other cars without issue, but I'm a bit concerned about doing it to the Stinger cause this seems to be a common issue..

lots of us have done it without issue , use fishing line to "saw" the badge , apply subtle heat with a hair dryer not a heat gun , dont pry or lift agressively , lots of info on th issue in previous threads

I had the same issue with my car. Had to get the rear painted. Had them fill in the holes in the process. Looks good now

Never use Goof Off on a car...it will destroy the paint. You likely mean Goo Gone...very different stuff and great for removing residue.

"this has never happened before!" Classic lol the adhesive on the back of the badges is serious stuff, I've taken off a few badges and I've never had adhesive as tough as the ones on the Kia badges. There's been a few people who are pretty sure the badges on their cars were installed before the paint was 100% cured.

I hadn't heard of this wheel before but now after seeing it on YouTube it would be the last thing I would use.

I’m 100% sure that’s what happened with mine. After the emblems were removed you could still see where they were etched in the paint.

I get it now: it is good quality paint on the Stinger, but the badge adhesive is the best around; even their own paint sometimes doesn't hold up and loses the tug of war. I am not being facetious. Putting badges on before the paint is fully cured/dry is an assertion only. Super powerful adhesive is all the explanation needed. That is actually a good thing. But it would be nice to know beforehand! I'm sure a pro who screws up a customer's paint getting Kia badges off would agree!

Good to hear your method worked as it's exactly what I planned to do especially with paint worries. I really want that stinger script out back... I was going to use fishing line to cut the adhesive (pulling towards the badge so to not scratch the paint), then use goo gone / goof off to chemically break down the adhesive and gently remove. Slight polish and all is well...I sure hope!

Saw the fishing line holding it flat to the body , dont pull up , nylon line wont scratch but if you are concerned mask off the areas above and below the badge , the key is warm the badge and surrounding body but dont make it really hot , just enough to soften the adhesive AND go slow and dont rush !!

For sure, and thanks. I have done badge removals on at least 5 of my previous cars with no issues, it is just other people's misfortune here that started to worry me, otherwise I would not have given it a second thought originally.
