AWD stingers are only 130 mph able

Is Pressertech updating their tune at all as time goes on? Or was it a one-and-done?

If I add/delete equipment, I can return my ECU to be reprogrammed to optimize my new set-up. For instance, if I delete my primary cats, they will re-program for that, etc.. Also, if a dealer re-flashes my ECU with an update (I always ask them to not program my ECU with updates), then @PRESSERtech LLC will re-tune for me.

All of this is included in the initial price. However, shipping costs are on me.

I hope this helps

Thanks. I was more asking if they were still actively working on improving the tune, adding new features, etc? Sounds like the answer is no? Not saying that's horrible or anything, just wondering.

Last time someone asked a similar question they said they were focusing on a stage 3 for a German specific car (I think they said AMG, but don't quote me). I checked their website and they still haven't added Kia Stinger to it. Last year they said they would start doing write ups about the Stinger on their site in 2019 but the only things I found in their blogs this year was about BMW and Mercedes. And they haven't posted here in half a year.

Best bet to get answers about them is to email them at service@pressertech.com.

*edit: The stage 3 tune they were focusing on was for an S65. They said they could work on one for the Stinger (at a discounted price) if they had a donor.

2019 Kia Stinger Specifications

AWD with 18" = 130mph
AWD with 19" = 167mph
RWD with 19" = 167mph

If the car was sold with 18" wheels (AWD only variants) the ECU *should* be limited to 130mph, assuming the dealer applied the correct variant via KDS. I asked a dealer tech who told me they do have the ability to update it from 130mph to 167mph via KDS VCI II ECU flash as long as you bring it with 19" or larger wheels with the correct speed rating. According to him most dealers will not do this due to liability reasons, but it can be done.

I can confirm RWD GT1 does 167+ with the factory 19", and 20" aftermarket wheels. Feels damn good doing so, I might add.

I'm capped at 130 as well, mine was sold with 18" all-seasons.

Hmmm, I might poke around our area's dealerships to see if they would be willing to flash mine. I don't have 19s at the moment (waiting to get a set after winter) with the appropriate speed rated summer tires, but I want that restriction removed. I'm cheesed that my 20-year old Prelude has no limiter and has a higher top end as my Stinger.

That won't ever happen.

^^^Even if I slipped a number of Benjamins? ;)

Then it's the tuning option for me then.

Here are the different ECUs available for US models. It looks like only the 3.3L motor specifically calls out the 18" or 19" wheels/tires.

The Stinger goes 160+. We have seen it, there are those in here who have driven it faster than 130. Tons of articles say it reaches 167. There is no deceptive advertising involved. It goes 160+.

Just de-badge it.

De-badgers think it turns their Stingers into Aventadors ...

Those equipped from the factory with 18" all seasons top out at 139. Proven.

Unfortunately, this wasn't specified for months after sales began. But the TV ads had told everyone the Stinger'd go nearly 170.

It was in the brochure/booklet I picked up before they were even available for sale in the US (when the E-badged models were on display).

News to me.

What speed rating to the 18" all-season tyres have?

Have Kia potentially governed the top speed down to match that speed rating on the cars that have those 18" wheels with all-season tyres down to match that speed rating, simply to avoid the potential that they may get caught out allowing the car to exceed that speed rating and land themselves in a law-suit?

It seems some AWDs have the limitation and some do not - have Kia lifted it on the AWDs that come with 19" wheels now at some stage (whereas earlier it was simply a blanket decision for all AWDs to be governed to 130mph?

I remember years ago there was semi-trailer/prime mover truck racing in Australia, with the trucks limited to 130km/h because that was the highest speed rating tyres that they could get (the engines in the trucks were capable of going a LOT faster, but they had to govern them to 130km/h for all trucks participating in the series to avoid potential legal issues).
