So, I *THOUGHT* that if I left the car unlocked and walked away, once my key got out of range, it would lock itself?

Tried that at work today (relatively secure lot), came back, still unlocked.

Did I do it wrong? Do I have a setting I set wrong? Or do I need to change my expectations?

As much as I wish it were, I don’t believe that is a current feature of the car. Hit the detonator button like the rest of us.

Good to know. Will have to re-read the manual just to be sure. I've always had to do it on my other cars, and it's not a problem - I just want to know if I can or not..

Nope.

Aftermarket setups will do that (K8stingerstore canbus)

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
If you're like me and the canbus looks crazy intimidating (ie hacking apart a factory harness to insert spaghetti monster) - I found this smaller dedicated board on SharkRacing you could try. Only 4 wires to splice.

If you unlock the car and walk away without opening a door, it will then relock itself.

Ah - is that what I'd observed in the past maybe?

Did you have the shark racing module?
Is it everything it claims to be
No, sorry. Should have clarified. I don't have the Shark Racing module. I just came across it in the never ending search for new parts.

That's why Kia made the key fob such a fun shape; to remind us to lock up (and to make remembering fun). :D

I was reminded of this thread this morning (but would never have expended the time trying fecklessly to find it): my wife wanted to go out to the car before I was ready and asked me to "push the button, Max" (i.e. unlock the car from inside the house). I stepped to the door and hit the Button twice and heard it faintly around the corner in the carport. She went out and then returned at once. "It didn't work." I got annoyed, that my car was messing with me (unlocking/locking doors still gets fouled up by me occasionally). I handed her my entire keys and she went out to do her makeup; and soon I followed. Then we drove to church and she went inside before I did. As I was walking away from the car, I did my usual MO: turned to admire while I pushed the "detonator" button (so fun!): and that's when muscle memory clued me in: I had naturally pushed the "detonator" to unlock the car for her at the house. Heh! Not the car's fault at all: just my favorite button to push: I have to consciously push the "unlock" button or else (like this time) I push the wrong/fun one.
