Australian CK Stinger Safety Recall

I received a Vehicle Safety Recall letter today the 02 November 2018 from Kia Motors Australia , vehicles included are YB Rio and CK Stinger with a towbar fitted.

Potential Safety Issue

Due to a manufacturing issue, the towbar label has the incorrect load ratings specified. As a result the towing specifications are misleading to the customer. If the towbar is overloaded it could seperate from the vehicle, posing an accident risk.

My DeepChromaBlue StingerGT is not affected by this recall.

Mine was done the other week when they fitted my SB’s also changed diff oil as well.

On the subject of recalls I found this article this morning. Looks a bit more serious than the tow bar thing. Can’t say I like the idea of my Stinger randomly catching on fire.

Thinking of adding a fire extinguisher to my Stinger for a while, maybe this is a good reason to purchase one, my Stinger has only ever gone on short trips, but the amount of heat build up in the engine bay is way beyond any other car i have ever owned before.

Visited my Kia dealership couple days ago, i asked the service guy about the towbar safety recall, he told me even if your Stinger doesn't have a towbar, they have see the car in person anyway, and your Stinger recall is marked complete on their computer system, no safety recall labels required inside the doors like some other cars or years before, the other recall in the US for the wiring harness touching the front fender and possibly causing damage or fire, no such recall for Australia at the moment.

I started this thread when I received the first notice letter for the Rio and CK Stinger Towbar Safety Recall letter, back on the 02-NOV-2018, today I received a second notice in regards to the same recall, my 12 months service is only days away, so I will have it done then.
Any other Aussies receive a second notice in the mail ?

Yeah I got my second notice yesterday but I had my 10,000km service last Friday and they were meant to have taken care of the recall so I plan to call them again tomorrow. To be fair standard letter service with Australia Post is pretty crap these days so it’s possible they posted it before the service last week.

Yeah as far as I know. Basically they put the wrong rating values on it and need to change the stickers so you don’t load too heavy.

I looked at the Kia towbar and didn't like it anyway, I have to tow a 6x4 box trailer 2 or 3 times a year only light duty, I'm getting this because it does not require any cutting of the rear bumper bar. and it's cheaper than the dealer towbar. Stinger
Nice and stealth when not in use.

If you get the recall letter just go in to the dealership tow bar or not and they should clear it. I didn’t realise there was another tow bar other than the Kia one but it doesn’t surprise me someone has developed it. Doesn’t affect me I don’t tow anything.
