Attempted launch control the wrong way before doing it right

Today, I used launch control on my stock 3.3L AWD Stinger for the first time, but I messed up initial attempts.

I knew that you need to turn off both TCS and ESC but I mixed up the icons on the screen at first and attempted to launch with only TCS off. So I tried to launch with only TCS off while pressing both brake and gas pedals. I revved the engine for a few seconds about 4-5 times, one time wheels also tried to spin.

Then I realized that ESC is on and I turned it off. Then I launched properly a few times and every time it was underwhelming, no better than just stepping on gas from a stop. 0-60 mph time measured with Dragy was 5.1s on each launch (0-100 km/h was 5.4s). The launches also seemed really weird - once I let go of the brake the car kind of jerks forward just a little, then stalls for about half a second and then starts moving.

I have the following questions:
  1. How much wear and tear was possibly caused by those failed launches, i.e. holding both brake and gas with ESC on and making the engine fight the brakes?
  2. Is a jerky launch experience expected with the AWD version?
  3. How are the 0-60 mph and 0-100 km/h times? On paper this car should be doing 5.1s 0-100 km/h and my 5.4s is pretty far from it.

I wouldnt worry about wear from the couple mistaken attempts. I suspect they may have affected your times though. Id go start fresh and give it another try, make sure the engine is at operating temperature. Also times can be affected for a ton of reasons, ambient temperature, elevation etc.

Lol. Let's share botched launch stories. The only thing that will stress your car is doing too many attempts close together. But when the trans fluid starts to get near boiling point, the car won't let you do anymore launches, at least with LC. You are right. LC is rather unimpressive, if we are expecting to get faster 0-60 times out of it. I've found that using auto hold is easier and at least as quick. You just hover on the gas pedal waiting for the light, then smoothly press down to the kickdown switch. Don't mash the pedal, give it a little rollout then smoothly reach for the kickdown switch. I like to manually shift up, but in the event that I let the tach bounce off the redline, the car is now upshifting for itself, because I wasn't swift enough on the upshift. A number of times using LC I have neglected/forgotten to take the shifter out of manual gate and expected the car to upshift, only to have it bounce off the redline and disengage, making me look like a total fool.

I haven't tried Launch Control in my Stinger but I had a failed Launch Control event in my C8 Corvette with my wife in the car. Similar to the OP, I turned off TCS but didn't set the performance mode. The brake/accelerator combination worked but when I released the brake, the Vette fishtailed and left 2 long black streaks of VERY expensive rubber. Wife wasn't happy.
