Are You An Aggressive Driver?

This is the only kind of "flying" that I do:

Lol I thought it may have been a dragon.
"It" was supposed to happen this evening. But when I got to the game shop nobody was there. I waited c. half an hour then left in a mild dudgeon of impatience and boredom. Our next game is scheduled clear out on Jan 3rd. We only play every other week as it is. The Holidays, and this kind of coooold season with darkness seems to mess with people my age.

I am not (not) an aggressive driver.
But it is either 80 plus on the freeway or I'm doing speed limit in the right lane. No in between. Surface streets are different, I'll floor it off a green light if I can get away with it but no speed or agression off the freeway.

What is an aggressive driver to you? My girlfriend says I am, I say I am not. I do not care much about zero-to-sixty. I rarely exceed the highway speed limit more than 10-15mph. But I cannot abide being behind a car that is more than one or two car-lengths behind the vehicle in front of them. It's a form of torture to me and I'll use the Stinger's capabilities to the fullest to get away from the offending vehicle and fill that gap.

Apparently this makes me an aggressive driver, until I remind my girlfriend that she drives a Nissan Rogue and drives like a girl.
hey, can you define driving like a girl ? I would like to see how I compare in comparison ;)

A not too long ago piece of local legislation says (words to the effect): if you are in the left hand lane on the freeway, and other vehicles are going faster than you, and you don't get out of their way or increase your speed, you can be cited for obstructing traffic. I have never heard of anyone receiving such a novel citation; but it does delight the imagination.
You know, I got in the habit of driving in the slower lanes unless I'm passing or there are a ton of slow driver on the road. On the whole, Utah has, by far, the worse drivers I've ever encountered in any place I've driven on a regular basis. And I've lived in 3rd world countries. Until I got the Stinger, I dreaded driving here. The Stinger is so good, I even enjoy driving here now.

Where do these A-holes get the nerve to tailgate at high speeds? If I hit the break they're through me without braking. Drivers appear to be getting more brazen, I always leave at least a 2 car gap, I need that peace of mind for braking.
Yes, when being taught to drive it was always to have at least a 1-2 car space in front, in case the car in front suddenly brakes. Also since my oldest child has gotten her license, when stopping at intersections you are supposed to be able to see the rear tyres of the car in front ( have that gap ) I hate it when cars/trucks pull up so close behind you you think they are nearly touching your rear bumper. Also " Green light " doesn't mean it is always safe to move out, especially when turning at intersections, I always look both directions to make sure it's clear before moving out, I don't want to be that statistic that get's T.boned by some idiot racing through a red light.( and unfortunately I keep seeing people go through red lights )
And finally, it's so annoying seeing women stopped at intersections applying make up, they put on lippy and mascara, focus ladies, your'e supposed to be in control of a vehicle, make up should be applied before leaving the house DUH !!

With your background I believe your are an outstanding driver. Here in Australia there is a huge amount of older drivers over 70 who just don’t have the reactions to drive safe on the roads. They have to be examined by a doctor over 82 I think to get there licences back. Many slip thru the cracks and get back in the road. Young drivers can be just as bad as they take bigger risks or just don’t stick to the road rules. I guess age can be disputed but with all the hoops you have to get thru these days to get a fresh licence you would think there would be better drivers on the road, unfortunately is has got worse. We really need retest people every five years.
Here in Victoria they don't seem to test elderly drivers, my Aunt is 89, not been tested and had a car accident in town. No other vehicle was involved but she collected and took out a fence. She wouldn't go with the ambos to get checked out at hospital ( the ambos had checked her but due to age thought she should go to ED ) she's stubborn. Anyway, she did a lot of damage to her beloved car ( a 28 yr old Holden Calais ) and decided to give up driving .She received a letter from the police stating they had sent her details to Vic Roads and she would have to be reassessed to get back on the road. But if she hadn't had that accident she would still be driving and obviously not safely enough.

Sadly, for all my big talk, this is what can happen when you are stuck in traffic, minding your own business, and not moving:

Very sad indeed! Sucks man.

I started driving in '86. I had never hit a car, or been hit by a car, until I moved to Utah. Then it happened twice within a year of being here. Once, it was just like you. Sitting at a stop light waiting to turn. I was three cars back, light turned green, and all of a sudden I head a bang and my truck moved a bit. I got a rusty tow ball, he had his bumper attached to it as we pulled over. His whole front part of his car was messed up.

Our daughter lives in Atlanta. On a recent visit to Salt Lake City she opined that Atlanta drivers are the worst; for one main reason, Atlanta cops are too busy fighting real crime to put any on traffic "watch", so drivers know that they can get away with anything short of mayhem. This means that while too many are driving like mindless loons, not signaling or maintaining anything like traffic flow, the rest are driving like speed demons and lunatics. The extremes drive her nuts. She went on about it quite a bit, actually.

I agree, having the Stinger makes driving into a whole new ball game: a fun one, even with so many bad drivers around. I feel like I can dodge them and get away from them. This could be a dangerous mindset, actually, because the biggest danger is the one you cannot see up ahead because it is blocked by intervening traffic. Many times I have just maintained my lane and my patience, only to discover shortly that the lane I was tempted to move over to and accelerate from was blocked by a slow mo vehicle that I could not see. Tempting though sudden bursts of speed are, as often as not they would be stupid to engage in. My younger self, in this car, would probably have banged it up by now! :D

The way technology is going we won't have to worry soon about driving the vehicle. We will be just a passenger. Part of me (the older part) may not mind especially if it's the trip to work.

I guess the worst part for me is that people do uturns anywhere here no matter how dangerous it is to do at that time. Not that this state has made that illegal or anything. Its like they said, hey, our state name starts with.a U so let's allow U turns practically everywhere.;-)

Look at my plate "Yoo" does not mean "U" turn! :P My particular grievance is the unsignaled maneuver, which more often than not includes a sweeping curve across all available lanes, as if that driver sees no one. I feel like a bumper in a pinball game, waiting to be smacked by the steelie. Ye gods!

In Massachusetts we consider using signals as providing advance notice to the enemy. :)
