2.0T Are there any performance numbers for the 2.0T Stinger?

Sorry, I forgot the Base Stinger (too GT focused)
  • BMW 330i: 23/34/25; 0-60: 5.4 sec.
  • Jaguar XE 2.0T: 21/30/24; 0-60: 6.6
If the 2.0T Stinger can hit the early estimated mark of ~6.0 sec. to sixty and come in around the XE's fuel economy, then we may have another winner when content/price are factored in.

I have to say that the BMW 340i with AWD is just unfair. What??? How do they get that car to be so fast and still get such good gas mileage? I almost think we should leave BMW out of the comparison. :p Don't expect our Stinger to compete with that!

Ze Germans do build efficient power trains. Also, the last 4 gears in their 8 speed transmissions are all about milking every last drop out of the fuel economy. And you're right, I wouldn't count on Hyundai's 3.3T + AWD transmission being competitive, though I don't think it'll be awful either.

There's a reason practically the entire automotive industry has been chasing after BMW, especially with the 3-Series, for all these years. They're certainly on top of their game. I agree, the Stinger won't be too far off - and that's nothing to be ashamed of. That's impressive, really...

As Jeremy Clarkson would say there is some sort of “witchcraft” involved. :D

I am still stuck on the Genesis G90 3.3T HTRAC posting 0-60 times of 5.3-5.4 sec. and finishing the ¼ Mile in 13.9-14.0 sec @ 100-101mph, with it's 8-speed trans programming described as “lazy”.

The 700+ pound weight reduction (GT vs. G90) [with hopefully different transmission programming ] has to put the Stinger within half a second or so of the BMW acceleration times.

I still stand by the notion that as long as the fuel economy is “pretty close” (w/ the performance listed above), Kia is in good shape. The 8-10% fuel economy increase you will likely gain by going with the BMW over the Stinger is not going to put the 20% price premium BMW charges you (to get “like for like”) back in your pocket. Unless you like to keep your cars for almost a decade and a half. But even then I would think the “10/100,000” warranty would have to be a factor.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Yes, Bamm1 you hit the nail on the head with that warranty. Anyone who does keep their car for the long term is going to appreciate that along with the price of entry! I think the Stinger will be competitive with fuel economy but like Jeremy Clarkson says, they're done have that "witchcraft" on their side like BMW does.

I agree that 5.9 to 60 for the four banger would be good. Today's midsize naturally aspirated V6s aren't barely achieving that so it seems pretty good in my book.

5.9 to 60 puts it right in the mix with the other 2.0T powered lux competitors. The current range is around 5.5 - 6.0 sec (BMW 330i, Mercedes C300, etc.)

Aren't those kinda small? I'm thinking Larry means Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Chevy Malibu, etcetera...

I think Larry was making a "6-cylinder vs. turbo 4-cylinder" performance comparison.

I was going with the cars Kia is actually targeting with the Stinger. Kia specifically mentions the Audi A4, Infiniti Q50, Lexus IS, BMW 4 Gran Coupe, Lexus GS and Mercedes CLS in it's press release. I don't think Kia is targeting the Accord, Camry, etc. with the Stinger. That is what the Optima is for.

The Stinger is indeed larger the the A4s, etc. but I think Kia is using that as a point of differentiation as it is mentioned in the press release as well.

I read this interesting article and the comment highlighted was this pearl by portlad (inserted text below). Reveals some small insights into the 4 cylinder versions, as actually driven.
This commenter seems legitimate with real feedback (but can't say too much else for the other mostly silly comments posted under article).

I am still surprised by how much emotion this "KIA" model has evoked. Just take look at the total comment counter (and this is just one web article).

Well all I can say is I am glad to have pre-register my order for a GT.

KIA are going to have trouble keeping up with demand for the Stinger in any model worldwide. I've just driven the UK spec Crdi & 2.0 turbo Petrol, & both are impressive. We couldn't get hold of the top AWD version , as it wasn't available for us. The petrol is a beauty & quick. The diesel is better again & packs a good punch when the right foot plants the pedal to the metal. The 8 spd auto is an excellent choice & helps with the efficiency of both engines. On the run along the M4 from London to Exeter , the petrol at 70Mph (110kmh) achieved 7.2l/100km & the return run saw the diesel at 4.9l/100km which was far better than we had expected considering the last 25 km back to our London base was in a traffic gridlock. Just a shame the diesel version isn't Aus bound, as this is definitely the pick . The Stinger is another high quality vehicle, with excellent fit, & finish inside & out. Both the versions tested were loaded with kit & hopefully our vehicles will end up with the same features as the UK models. This one is worth waiting for.

i like the sounds of that. excellent fit and finish inside and out and nice power and fuel efficiency. i'm also a little surprised about this car but when you think about it i'm sure kia can pretty much make any car it wants at this point. the know how is there. i'm sure they could make a lamborghini if they wanted to. all it would be missing is the badge and soul that comes with an exotic like that.

Here's my guess's for final production performance 0-60, pure speculation, what you say? ...
GT V6; 4.6sec
4 turbo; 6.3sec
4 diesel; 8.2sec

Revised now...
TTV6; 4.7
4 turbo; 5.9 (still speculation but based on recent announced 0-100km as 6 sec flat)
Both bloody quick!

5.9 for the 4 turbo might make me consider it instead of my current 6T or nothing mindset. I was expecting something more like 6.5. Decisions, decisions.

Well a lot of the reviews that are coming out state 5.9 for the 2.0T. That's actually pretty good. If only it came with all the options of the GT2.
