April Sales Announced , Stinger - 939 units

Agreed re: the G70. When introduced, I was a bit curious why Hyundai/Kia would put out the G70 right behind the Stinger, and it has to be cannibalizing some of the Stinger sales. As I've said elsewhere here, I never thought that Kia would sell a lot of Stingers. It's definitely special - it has a niche... and that's perfectly fine with me.
It seems odd to call G70 sales "cannibalizing" off the Stinger; when it is the same company getting the sales of either car. Clearly, one buyer is not likely to buy both cars; but I am sure that has occurred occasionally. So a buyer makes his/her decision and goes with one or the other, and Hyundai Corp wins.

The Stinger is a statement for what Kia is today; what it can do. The G70 is no statement, it is an offering. I don't think Kia/Hyundai worries about Stinger sales, since they are already in excess of what they projected going in. There are enough Stingers entering the market to justify its purpose, its existence. Going forward, the model is going to cement Kia's reputation as a car manufacturer that has arrived and will henceforth be a bigger frontrunner.

The Stringer and Telluride are driving a lot of eye balls into dealerships .......................they are changing the way people will view the brand moving forward , the Telly is in one of the fastest growing segments and will have sales far in excess of the Stinger which is in a smaller declining segment BUT important for brand image .................BMW sells far more SUVs than cars now but the cars drive their image

I was 1st interested in the G80 sport, to much money for me to spend on a car I'd end up doing 120-150 per day.
While doing some research and watching video reviews of the G70, the guy kept comparing it to the Stinger, the price and hatch seemed more practical for me plus the 3.3TT and AWD sold me, I did look at a G70 but felt the back seat and trunk where to small.

Gotta' disagree with you there, sir. It's a generally accepted term in the marketing biz. I even asked Mr. Wikipedia: "... a reduction in sales volume, sales revenue, or market share of one product as a result of the introduction of a new product by the same producer."

There is nowhere near enough data, nor long enough time to conclude a trend that supports a theory of the Hyundai G70 cannibalizing Stinger sales.

Additionally, while the performance is similar between the two cars, there is zero support to theorize a 4-door sedan cannibalizing sales of a 5-door hatchback.

But car (especially sedan) sales are down everywhere, even while G70 sales are increasing because it's newer. I agree with @MisterMac that it's too soon to make the claim that G70 is "cannibalizing" Stinger sales. The two models are too different to say that a smaller 4-door sedan is competing with a 5-door hatchback. I'd never have bought a G70; it would never have attracted my attention at all. The Stinger, on the other hand, would not let me ignore: it was too GT oriented and practical and well done. The G70 is just like a flock of other small high performance sedans that have been running around me and my vans for literally decades.

I strongly considered the G70, there were several things I liked better about it, but ultimately the back seat room (and lack of availability) was a deal breaker. Before the Stinger/G70 came out the G80 Sport was on my list as well.

My totally made up guess is 30% or so of G70 buyers would have bought a Stinger instead if there was no G70. It would be interesting to know how many G70 buyers came from an IS or Q50.

The other issue was the lack of local dealerships, I was told they would come to my house an hour plus away and pick it up but that didn't make sense to me.

Low production is fine with me.
I don't like to see myself coming and going.
I see very few on the road which suits me fine.
I often return to my car after being inside a store, and find someone looking
at my car. Their first question is, what make of car is that?
My car is de-badged with "E" emblems. No Kia emblem in sight.
When I tell them, they are very surprised, and always say how nice it looks.

I attended a golf tournament yesterday that was put on by the New Car Auto Dealers Association in El Paso. I arrived early because early is on-time and on-time is late...

Anyway, I like to park next to nice/luxury cars because typically they won't ding your car.

I backed in next to a white Audi RS5. The owner was tooling around in the passenger side, so we got acquainted. He is an Automotive photographer who was there to take pictures during the event. He loved my Stinger, so we talked a bit. He then asked permission to take some pictures of it, so I acquiesced. :)

Anyway, I saw him later on the course and he was still quite excited. While he was taking pictures, a Z06 parked on the other side of his RS5, so he took some really nice shots of the three lined up. He shared that the Z06 owner was intrigued by my Stinger and is going to do some research. He's been looking to get something a little easier to get in and out of, but still looked hot. Had never heard of the Stinger.

Just another reason to love having a rare, sexy, high-performance car! I hope to get the pics soon.
