Hey peeps,

I did my first tracking session in my stinger a few months back and it very much annoyed me how the steering wheel could be turned 90 degrees, both of my hands at the 10/2 position, and I can't change the gears without moving my hands. The paddle shifters move with the wheel, as you all know. I did some research and I found 2 types of paddle extenders: one pair of carbon fiber ones from DSG, and another are aluminon bolt ones. I liked the look of the DSGs more and purchased those.

I am not impressed. I installed them correctly and let them bond for about 18 hours. I drive around town, and the bottom half of the extenders correctly and quickly change gears. Perfect. But the tops don't. The entire top half of both left and right paddles don't change the gears. In fact, I see there are gaps down at the bottom between OEM paddle and new paddle when the top part is pressed. This seems to me like the 3M bonding tape they gave me didn't bond well enough. During installation, I held top, middle, bottom firm for 30 seconds, that should be plenty of time to get the initial adhesion.

I emailed DSG and they said that this wasn't a defect.
"This isn't a defect with anything per se, it's that you cannot shift at the very top of these paddles due to the length. Some paddles are longer for style but the longer you go, the less effective it is at shifting the OEM paddle beneath it. For example, imagine a 1m long paddle - it would be impossible to shift from the very top or bottom. There is simply a limit to what's allowable with the oem setup and we just extend that range within it's limits."

So they even acknowledge that they sell a product that won't work at the outer ranges, which is the whole point of the f*cking product. I obviously immediately asked for a refund.

Next up for considerations are the bolt ones. Does anyone have experience with this, or others? Or will these be returned too?

thanks yall

I have the aluminum ones and they are just for show. Can’t shift when you hit the top or bottom part.

FYI: Your hands should be at 9 & 3. There are depressions in the wheel to lock your thumbs.
Get the paddles from K8 that use screws not tape, they work.

True story. Im just lazy in traffic on the highway slow and go. I tend to hang out between 3d and 5th at that point.

Now actually using the paddles for fun and go, i have no issue using them as intended.

I just did this, I got the silver aluminon screws extenders. I will wait however long it takes for these to ship, then I will post up!

You'll need a little patience to turn the inside cap head set screws and DON'T LOSE the tool, it's tiny and an uncommon size.
Let us know what you think

I got those aluminum cnc 'bolt on' ones but if your serious about them 'working' the issue is that we have a simple switch or button that does the work. It needs almost 'vertical' or direct pressure. Maybe if you shim the rest of the switch at the base of the lever... maybe?

Should I just ditch the paddles and use the manual shifter? Would vastly perfer both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road

FWIW you'll get used to the flex in the extenders if you give them a chance.

Its hard to give something a chance that doesnt work in the first place

Just like spinning hubcaps they do work but they are a look thing and they look good

Helpful hint: heat up the double-sided pads before installation and be careful when aligning them. The slightest misalignment interferes with proper bonding and function and is probably why they include multiple sets of double-sided adhesive pads for installation.

Ok so I just got in the K8 paddle aluminum bolt ons + 3m tape. I installed via the bolts but I did not use the 3m tape. I am running into the same issue, the tops paddles just will not shift. Not just at the very top, the entire aftermarket paddle above the OEM paddle. I emailed K8:

"It's not so much the very tip, but the entire top section above the OEM paddle. The reason I bought these is because when I was tracking the car a few weeks ago, I had to keep my hands in the 10-2 position. When I was in a turn, I had to at times upshift or downshift. Since the paddles move with the wheel, when the steering wheel is at a 90* turn, the paddles are now at the 12 and 6 position. My hands have to stay at 10 and 2. As a result, I need to shift but I can't move my hands. With these extensions, I can basically hit the paddles no matter where my hands are. But the problem is that the bottoms shift but the tops won't.

Have you run into this problem? The entire top paddles not shifting?

I guess I can use the 3M tape that it came with, but the reason I held off is because the DSG paddles used the same 3M tape and they didn't work either. Had the exact same problem: bottoms shifted just fine, tops don't.

I made a video showing what I mean:

Hmmm have you .....I'm not sure how to help but maybe the way you push it needs to be fine tuned for how the extendos operate. I'm sorry if I persuaded you to lose money :(

Why do you have to stay at 10 and 2? IMO that makes no sense to me. I cant say ive ever seen any road course driver run around at 10 and 2.
