Hey peeps,
I did my first tracking session in my stinger a few months back and it very much annoyed me how the steering wheel could be turned 90 degrees, both of my hands at the 10/2 position, and I can't change the gears without moving my hands. The paddle shifters move with the wheel, as you all know. I did some research and I found 2 types of paddle extenders: one pair of carbon fiber ones from DSG, and another are aluminon bolt ones. I liked the look of the DSGs more and purchased those.
I am not impressed. I installed them correctly and let them bond for about 18 hours. I drive around town, and the bottom half of the extenders correctly and quickly change gears. Perfect. But the tops don't. The entire top half of both left and right paddles don't change the gears. In fact, I see there are gaps down at the bottom between OEM paddle and new paddle when the top part is pressed. This seems to me like the 3M bonding tape they gave me didn't bond well enough. During installation, I held top, middle, bottom firm for 30 seconds, that should be plenty of time to get the initial adhesion.
I emailed DSG and they said that this wasn't a defect.
"This isn't a defect with anything per se, it's that you cannot shift at the very top of these paddles due to the length. Some paddles are longer for style but the longer you go, the less effective it is at shifting the OEM paddle beneath it. For example, imagine a 1m long paddle - it would be impossible to shift from the very top or bottom. There is simply a limit to what's allowable with the oem setup and we just extend that range within it's limits."
So they even acknowledge that they sell a product that won't work at the outer ranges, which is the whole point of the f*cking product. I obviously immediately asked for a refund.
Next up for considerations are the bolt ones. Does anyone have experience with this, or others? Or will these be returned too?
thanks yall
