Anyone ever thought about color matching the fender vents?

Ive been debating on what i want to do with my fender vents. I have a premium so they are silver instead of the black chrome. (Im guessing to let the community know im slow) All joking aside there is not a ton of options to just grab and go. I do like the CF ones, and i like the look of the blackout. Ive found red and blue CF as well. Has anyone paint matched theirs? Or done something different?

I wish they were excluded entirely on models with the basic brakes.

I doubt they're really needed for single piston brakes. Who takes their 4 cyl stinger to the track....?

Makes sense, maybe you can shed a little light on this for me. I understand the vents in the front bumper send air to the brakes to help cool under extreme conditions. But how are the ones behind the wheel in the fenders helping?

Vents behind the brakes on most cars are for smoothing the airflow over the wheel, increases efficiency. That's why 4-series had them and others. Plenty of cars with massive brakes (like my SS 1LE) get great brake ventilation/cooling without giant vents. I'd say the situations where they are there for brake cooling are pretty few and far between, the vast majority being efficiency and just styling/non-functional.

Do it !

A lot of people got paid good money to build a game changing GT car for Kia.
3.3LTT or 2.0T makes no difference. Go enjoy the fruits of their labor !

If you don't take a Stinger out on the track, you might as well have bought a Seltos.

I've seen a few pics of wrapped Stingers where they colour matched the vents... and IMHO it doesn't look good/right.
On your SWP I'd wrap them gloss black, or black carbon fiber :)

The open road is a track when you pass fast. :D

Brake vents: I concur with the point that it is airflow for greater stability and not to cool off the brakes.

I agree with the brake cooling air flow, but efficiency? I don't see it. Also, why are the channels in the fenders different sizes driverside vs pass side? One would expect them to be symmetrical, no?

We have too much traffic and incompetent drivers (even on 2 wheel pedaled machines) to treat the open road as a track. For me it's all about the corners anyway, not straight line speed.

You don't pass fast in traffic; that enjoyment is for the highway when you look up ahead and see a situation developing where some maroon coming up slowly on an eighteen-wheeler is going to slowly pull out to pass at a half a mile per hour "faster" speed and block you: so, you hit the throttle and close the distance swiftly, so that when they check their rearview mirror, there you are and they don't make the move until you bomb by. Use discretion.

So no other suggestions other than @RedCal ? All tech info is great and all but.... i didn't help the sidebar either by asking questions

To answer the actual OP question: personally, I would not want the side vents the same color as the body.

That's why they use wind tunnels and computers for this stuff.

@OP, maybe play around with photoshop to get an idea what it would look like? I think this is very much a personal preference. On a lighter colored car, anything darker will add contrast. If this doesn't appeal to you then paint them body color.

I think the car is quite long and a little color differentiation doesn't hurt.

Perhaps not on the track, but in hilly regions brake cooling becomes important (your heat sink is smaller so cooling is even more important), plus those scoops are functional for controlling airflow around the wheelwells to decrease drag so they are probably helping with fuel economy as well.

Update: think about it a moment. The scoops/vents that are there for styling cues, are just that and are nonfunctional. Kia engineers not only made the scoop functional, but included PPF on all Stingers at the back of the rear doors and lower front of the rear quarters to prevent damage for any pebbles which might find their way through the vents. A big corporation whose bean counters will axe fasteners or force choosing a cheaper interior finish (like, oh I dunno, that rubberized paint in Saab interiors that you find peeling in every single 9-3 you will ever see that has been cleaned with anything but water) to save a nickel per unit, would certainly have nixed the vent and the PPF it were not actually functional.

TL;DR summary: that side vent is functional, and leave that sticker thingy on the rear doors and rear quarters alone.

Oh BTW, 4-cylinder cars with similar curb weight that you'll find people racing and tuning; some of these are 150lb heavier, some 150lb lighter but close enough that varying driver weight and fuel fill level makes the difference a wash:

Audi A4
BMW 428i Gran Coupe
Merc-AMG CLA45
Volvo S60

Who takes their 4-cyl to the track?

Well the guy that took 3rd place yesterday at AutoX in the novice class, in a corolla, amazing driving.

In that class other 4cyls:

A Golf R, STI, Fiat/Miata, Mini (3cyl?).

Plenty of other 4cyls in the open and expert classes, including a Beetle...

I've driven through the mountains of colorado as well as the SE (blue ridge parkway area from NC to VA) in the G. Just used a lower gear when going down hill to keep speed in check.

@JamesNoBrakes None of those cars are 2 ton (#3850) fat pigs like the stinger :)

My intention is to paint them piano black with my mirror caps. I have a pair of mirror caps that I'm working on now and once I get them correct I'll paint the vents next.

Interesting concept though paint matching on the outer surface and leaving the inner matt black. Would like to see that.

JSolo, your 2.0T is still a very competent machine ( even being a bit porky as you mentioned ).

The upsides of the 2.0T and 2.5T are; less weight over the front wheels and the engine is mounted further back. Both of these are better for handling than the 3.3TT.

I'm not saying you have to race it but on the track you'll see where the engineering comes into play and what these Korean missiles can do.
