Anyone else smelling coolant?

I was under car yesterday and saw dried purple looking coolant on parts of the car. Maybe a leak in system when hot?

Very intresting CaliSting. My stinger smell went away. Mine smelled like windshield washer fluid.

I also noticed the smell early on, but seems to have gone. Can't vouch for the accuracy, but this reviewer mentioned the smell being caused by a protective coating sprayed on the engine from Korea. (Starts at 4:47).

Stuff I saw isnt protective coating. It looks like coolant that spilled and dried on several components. Example starter had some drops, hoses had some as well.

My GTO has always smelled like coolant, yet in 13 years, I've never added any between regular changes. As the overflow canister "breathes" through the vent cap, you will smell coolant. If you aren't losing any, forget it. If it's dripping off the starter or hoses, that's different and needs to be checked for a loose hose clamp or leak.

wiper fluid smell is the type they are using. if you use the cheap blue stuff, which you shouldn't it's just blue water basically, you will smell it as it atomizes as it sprays out of the nozzle. like how you can smell plastic when you turn on your hose to spray your hot neighbor over the fence on a hot summers day......did i just post that? crap!

as for the coolant leaks on your hoses, i haven't checked on my stinger, but my vette would weep through the water pump sometimes and it would collect and dribble onto the hoses. was told it was normal because it wasn't losing any coolant. it was like that for years until i sold the car. never had any problems with the vette.

No problem still after 13 years on my GTO, but on an earlier GM small block on my TransAm the water pump would show a slight seep. Never lost coolant and never replaced the water pump in 150,000 miles.

My car exhibited this coolant smell intermittently, but now it is constant- I smell it every time I park the car. Guess I am headed to the dealer soon.

I smell cool after a longer trip in ours as well. I figure its the vent as it only appears to be on the driver side. Its not very strong as my wife never notices it but I can smell coolant from a mile away. My dads truck use to always do this as well but it never leaked. I have been under the car several times and never saw any leaks. 5500 miles on ours.

Glad I decided to look around in this section. I have 4000+ miles, and while the dealership insisted it was "adhesives from the factory", it clearly lasted beyond the "few hundred miles" they stated.

I told them it smells like coolant and/or certain windshield washer fluid, but I'm glad there are others smelling it, too. Now that I now it's relatively normal, I'll have to keep an eye on my fluids to see if I've got an issue.

First time seeing this thread..

i took my car to the dealer due to coolant smell. They said they could not duplicate. I have to say at 9k miles i dont smell it as much though.

I have the smell from time to time.
Smells like washer fluid but I never used the washers yet!
Car has 300 miles on it.

I smell it every ride, not concerned as I see no visible signs of a leak and know it's not an internal leak since I'd have major issues if that was the case.

I smell it too and my coolant level never drops.

I think it is windshield washer fluid

I just started smelling coolant...ive got 1600 miles on her this just started....its almost taken over the new car smell...that is crazy...no leaks....cant smell it thru the vents either....Wash

I took mine to the dealer for the wiring recall last week and I asked them to check for this coolant smell. My coolant degas bottle is sitting at the low mark when cold. They claimed no smell present, and the coolant level was normal. I'll wait for the low coolant light to come on, then I'll take it back again. There is a leak somewhere, my entire garage smells like coolant every time I park. My other cars don't stink up the garage, so I don't buy that it is "normal". 13,000 miles.
