Went to wipe down the back of my car after getting it washed, noticed this.

I tried just pushing it back in, clearly something is broken. Light still works though at least.

That's a new one.
While waiting to get it replaced, I'd use a small strip of Gorilla tape to keep it secured.

I know it was replaced once cuz the body shop broke it a few years ago when they were doing the hail damage and rear bumper. Idiots didn't know how to properly open the hatch. Unless they just glued it and didn't actually replace the part, which is a possibility. Gonna have to do some research to see what the part is called.

Looks like my car is just missing one of the metal clips that slots into the side of the housing. The question is where to get it or should I just fab up something similar?

Hey, if you can fab, then definitely fab. Save money, time, and space - in your head at least. Hah.

Looks like the license plate light is a $35 part most places, maybe cheaper if you find a used one on ebay etc. Couldn't hurt to try bending a piece of sheet metal to see if that will work (make sure to debur the edges after you cut it), and if not, just grab a new one.
