This survey brings up a question that maybe you guys who know more about cars than I do can answer. Why is head up display usually only included at the the top trim levels of models, and often not even available as an option below that top level? Hasn't it been around long enough that it should have filtered down by now?
I ask because I've driven a Pontiac with HUD for twenty years (which admittedly displays less info than current examples), and I didn't even buy the top trim level at the time. I'm kind of married to the idea of having it on my next car. A couple of years ago, I abandoned a car search because all the cars I found with HUD were either prohibitively expensive, or they were models that I had no interest in driving. When I mentioned the feature to salespeople, some had no idea what I was talking about, while others acted like I was asking for a gold-plated flux capacitor.
Now Kia seems to be only offering it on the top trim level--which admittedly I probably will spring for if I go for the Stinger, since I like some of the other features. But shouldn't it be a more common option?
