Howdy from Tucson, AZ. Currently driving a 2001 Miata LS2, but toying with the concept of getting something a little bigger.

Onboard to see just how y'all like your Stingers & see how the first year is playing out.

Define "little".

Welcome!

Well, as far as "bigger' the car before my Miata was a Nissan Sentra SE-R that I drove for 10yrs. Once we moved from the North to Tucson I decided I wanted the Miata. It was a step down in both size & sizzle, although in the twisties it was pretty great. For the past 9yrs, it's had the LS2 under the hood and that has kept me pretty well entertained even though I fill the cockpit. I'm looking for something a little bigger, with a commensurate amount of power that doesn't make me feel like I'm driving a truck.

@SafetyFast: The Stinger's size is one of the deciding factors in my purchase: both cabin and cargo areas. 114.4" wheelbase. It's a good sized luxury sedan with sporty "gran turismo" lines and proportions. It's "roomy" and enfolding at the same time. Go test drive.

Drive a Stinger, you will like it. And, welcome to the Stinger Forum.

Thanks, everybody! Right now the big downer is SWMBO pooh-poohing the car over the A/T. She's a diehard manual tranny fan. I can go either way, I just don't want to eat dust from some soccer mom in a minivan. That started me on the slippery slope of power with the Miata.

How's 365hp, with an 8 speed trans and rear drive?

A/T, with manual gate and paddle shifters. The only thing missing is a clutch. And "real" race car drivers haven't used a clutch in years on years.

Yeah, I think that amount of power would be sufficient, it's about what I'm pushing right now in the Miata.

I've mentioned the use of A/T in racing cars for the past several years. She came back with a review of something, probably a Porsche, where the reviewer said something t the effect: "If you want to be fastest at the track get the A/T, but if you're just looking for fun get the manual." <--Wish I could remember where we saw that review!

The alternative, believe it or not, would be a '19 Miata, although the V8 mod isn't very realistic unless I win the PowerBall! I've grown so accustomed to being in a tiny car that everything I've sampled (Camaro, Mustang) feels trucklike as far the driving experience. I'll lurk around here for a while, learn the idiosyncrasies of the Stinger & then go visit the dealer. I didn't see any references to Tucson in the Dealer Experience forum.

Welcome aboard. You will certainly love the Stinger. If you have a chance go test drive it. It is the only way you will fall in love with it.

Welcome aboard! Definitely will feel A LOT bigger than a Miata. Because essentially IT IS. The difference is you now can have friends and go out to dinner together! You can now go to Costco and buy more than one chicken! Maybe, if it’s not your last penny, you can keep the Miata, too? Go test drive one, a GT2 and don’t look back....

welcome to the forum. as a person who grew up with a manual being much faster than slushboxes, i can not see myself driving a new car with a manual. will save the manuals for older classic muscle cars.
