Hey everyone! :)

I know there have been many posts about the issue with the brakes shaking the car while slowing down and the whole "bad pad vs bad rotor" debates going on. I have read the sticky and have read many of the threads already written on here.

I did try to "bed" my pads as suggested on the forums already but the issue came back.

Here is my problem.

Car has 3040 miles on it. I bring it in to the dealership since the entire car is shuddering and shaking under braking. They confirm the problem and REPLACE the front brake pads AND resurface the rotors. Fast forward about a week and less than 100 miles later and I noticed the same issue has returned; but only happened maybe once or twice on the drive then went away. But the car is not braking properly as it should, just like when the issue was showing itself before. My vehicle is violently shaking when slowing down, especially at higher speeds, and the vibrating feeling is coming from the brakes.

I have owned and worked with different performance vehicles before and I know this is not normal. Should I contact the same Kia dealership and have them take another look or contact Kia of North America about this? I just want my car fixed. I do not know anymore if the issues are the pads or rotors but for a car with less than 3150 miles on it this is crazy. We haven't even owned the car for six months yet. This is really scaring us if I'm being completely honest.

I am currently located in Yonkers 10704. Please let me know what should be done. I am open to all suggestions. I am not happy at all that this issue has returned after less than 100 miles and not even a week has passed yet. Very alarming for a vehicle that cost this much in my opinion... and we have owned Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes in the past.

Thank you all! :)

The issue is with the pads, Kia keep changing rotors & pads with the same OE stuff, it’s like a dog chasing it’s tail, just going around in circles & in the end pissing off the customers & putting the brand in a bad light.
For starters get aftermarket pads, this should resolve the issue.

Whatever you get/do, bed the system in properly. If you think you,re overdoing it, you’re not. I had to do this several times on my stage 3 LGT spec b after upgrading rotors, pads and SS lines. Getting the brakes HOT and not letting them cool before stopping for an extended period will compel deposits on the rotors. Bed properly and let the system cool before putting your car away for the night. Just one guy’s experience. Did/do this with the Stinger and it’s been fine.

I only have 99 miles on mine and ordered Stoptech front and rear pads already. Will be installing those so that I won't get this problem down the road.

So I have to buy aftermarket pads on a brand new car to stop having this issue lol?

I am going to contact Kia of North America and then my local Kia dealership and have them fix this for the second time.

They stated in their report from the first repair that they resurfaced the front rotors and replaced the front pads.

Should I have them replace all four rotors and replace all four pads? Even though the issue will continue to return?

"INSTALLED 58101 J5A51 : PAD KIT-FRONT DISC B / Qty: 1
TECH PERFORMED ROTOR RESURFACING TEST DROVE
INCIDENT RESOLVED OPERATING AS DESIGNED"

Go ahead. It is free anyway. For me, spent 200 on pads and be done with it.

Will you be bedding the new pads in?

If you do not want to buy aftermarket pads (which I strongly suggest), ask them to get you european spec pads. Part numbers are front: 58101J5A55 and rear 58302J5A55
The problem is only a issue with the US pads, they also have a different part number therefore a different supplier.

I will have them fix it a second time with OEM but then see from there. I don't want to use something aftermarket in case there is the same issue (possibly) and they start playing games.

Looks like I will ask them to use different pads or reimburse me in the future, possibly. I am going to see how it goes. Thank you everyone!

So just so I understand...

1 - Get aftermarket pads (front only or all four? / which brand?)
2 - Ask Kia to reimburse the cost of the purchase or at least cover the installation/labor fee
3 - Bed them in "properly" by following the guidelines on the forums
4 - Accept that this is "normal" when purchasing a brand new flagship vehicle at this price point
5 - Never worry about the vibrations and thudding and shuddering while driving ever again

:) :) :)

caveat to #5 - If you use the brakes responsibly. I.e., letting them cool after aggressive braking before stopping the car completely, esp. for an extended period so that you avoid any hot pad material transferring as deposits to the rotors. :)

From what ive read over the last 3years on here is its the North American pads you guys get.

I'm dealing with this for the 2nd time in less than a year.

All of these small things that KIA keeps pushing back on makes me want to sell this car so bad.

I understand your frustration as I share the same problem. But I realized the car is awesome with a bad component or two, but not the car's fault! KIA service of this issue is unacceptable. I'm going to invest in the proper parts and keep enjoying it. Good thing its reliable, Kia service is no good....

I am as well. I can't let the brake issue ruin the entire car. I am going to upgrade the pads, and hope it never returns!

I did my front pads, and I will be doing the rotors as well

I had the dreaded "50mph-15mph" shudder. I never brought it into the dealer, waste of my time. I bought cquence rotors, stoptech pads, and steal brake lines from a member on here and have had them installed for about 2 weeks. I did the bed in procedure and all seems good now. I really haven't truly tested them out, but from 50-15... I have no worries (I guess that's a good thing). :D

My opinion, KIA screwed the pooch on the brake stuff. I mean Brembo calipers for the looks and weak underneath parts...c'mon! I agree this should not be an issue for a car of this price point and power, but I'm guessing they shaved $$ where they could and they just haven't listened to the complaints. I think they are just worried about form over function in some areas on the car. Jerks.

Thank you everyone SO MUCH for taking time to post here and help me out.

I had the dealership replace the front pads and rotors entirely. If and when the problem occurs a third time I will go aftermarket pads BUT will make sure to have Kia reimburse me to the best of their ability. I love the car and am keeping a positive outlook of things at this point.

All the best and once again appreciate all of the help and feedback and information here! :)
