An afternoon 'dip'

Trying to get a feel for how black wheels will look on my car.

I think it's time to book that powder coat.

As much as I'd love to buy aftermarket, I've never had luck with them rolling true.

If aftermarket is what you really want, take a look at TSW wheels. They are strong, resisting pothole damage superbly. The wheels are uniform and true. Minimal weights are required to balance them, if the tire is relatively uniform too. Lastly, most of their wheels are available in black, smoke, or charcoal styles.

I found this brand when I had my BMW’s. Those cars are finicky and not tolerant of poor wheel design, construction, or durability at all. What’s more, equipped with low profile run flat performance tires, the Bimmers ate wheels and tires regularly. When I switched to TSWs, no more wheel damage from potholes.

I think @MerlintheMad has TSW wheels on his Stinger, so you may be able to check with him on how durable and well designed they are when used on the Stinger specifically.

how did you prep the stainless and what was the painting process , did you bake them too ?? ( thanks for all the answers and pics btw )
Just cleaned them well. Light sanding just to rough it up a bit, then used a decent heat resistant metal paint 3-4 coats.

So if that isn't your car, whose car is it?
yes. It takes no time to spray and peel off later.
Oh, I see: that's what the title means. (heh, read first, Dougy … )

That is my car. I'm loving the black wheels.
Here is a shot of the exhaust tips.

So, "dip" is what exactly? You say you can remove it? How durable is this "stuff"?

Yes, to clarify, the TSW are a very excellent wheel. I'm hesitant to say perfect, because the matte black on the front rims is more like satin finish, compared to the matte black on the rear rims which is definitely flatter black than the front. This I find odd, but it must be vagaries in the production. Paint can be extremely variable; so many outside factors affecting the final product. But performance-wise the TSW rims are superb. I haven't noticed anything to suggest that they are less than true.

Although I’m not 100% happy with the outcome. It seemed a bit odd to have such a rapid turnaround (less than 24 hours). I suspect they didn’t prep very well. I have sections that seem to be loose from the wheel (you can push on it like there is a gap). No break/tear in the powder coat. Just not adhering to the wheel. Like a mold.

That and they seem to chip easy (very small ... less than 1 mm)

In the winter, I’ll have them redo them as warranty.
This sounds very annoying/disappointing. Could the addition of one more day make all the difference? The turn around on my powder coating was c. 48 hours. Wheel Werks completely removed the existing finish (sand blasting, I believe), smoothed any existing dings/blemishes and then applied the powder coat. I've posted pics of the results before, but here are a few again:
