• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Alberta Stingers Check In

Ok... Has anyone fixed an issue with water coming through the driver side firewall grommet? The grommet is on there but there still seems to be water making its way in. Should i use a bit of silicone to stop it?

Did you purchase a previously owned stinger ? Most of us with a JB4 have to cut a small hole in that grommet to wire the JB4 OBDII cable. Could be why, I know my 18GT LTD I traded in on my 2020 GT LTD will have the hole haha.

I took the parts to an local tech that does a lot of aftermarket stuff. I don't think he poked a hole. He followed the directions from BMS to the letter so I don't think there's a hole.
I think I'm going to just seal it with silicone tonight.

There has to be a hole for the OBDII cable to pass through the firewall. You could use a piece of black duct tape over it

Yes and no, you don't need to poke a new hole, but you create a void by sliding the grommet edge slightly to put the cable through. So, basically not a permanent hole, but a void nonetheless. I never had water get though on mine.

I think you mean slitting ? Slitting still creates a hole, as the word hole has no defined shape. And if the folds of the rubber don't line up exactly, they will allow moisture / air to pass through. I discovered mine did this on the 18, in the middle of the winter when my feet were always cold. A small piece of black duct tape is all that is needed to resolve the issue

What I was meaning to say is that I did not poke any new holes in the grommet to feed the OBDII wire. You can slide the right edge of the rubber grommet to the left and run the cable through there rather than cut any holes, this is what I did. The only thing I felt was any risk in this method is potentially wearing the sleeve of the cable on the cord from the pressure against the firewall.

Yeah this is exactly what was done.

I think the silicone route is probably the easiest and then I don't have to worry.

Yes it does add potential wear, but also breaks the same seal a small slit in the rubber creates. It's no longer air tight, and cabin pressure can create a circumstances where moisture can be pulled in.

Yes, I wondered if I would have issues. Luckily, I never experienced any moisture entering the cabin. Silicone can help with this, but it will make a bit of a mess and maybe a little more hassle removing the cable when needed.

Hey folks,

Service question. I've made an appointment for 'service 3' on my Stinger. Quoted $389.95. Includes winter/summer swap (wheels and tires ready to go). Not synthetic.

Normal? Out of line? Thoughts?

Thanks for any input.

I just had service 3 done, I did synthetic and paid $420, I wouldnt think it's out of line, they also rotated wheels, checked all breaks, belts, connections ect. I think it's worth keeping the car in top condition :)

I'll probably take mine in for it's first service, mostly so see what they say about the mods. But I expect I'll be doing all my own maintenance.

Welcome to the group. Good to see new faces on the forums, its been really quite on here but we are lurking : )

Thanks man.
Unfortunately it went to $450 with semi synthetic.... unimpressed vs. the quote.

Are you in the Calgary area by chance? I'd like to know which dealership you used.

Thanks.
