I know there was a similar post about a noise coming from the turbo on this forum, but I created a different thread as the noise is pretty different.

So there it goes : I’ve recently noticed this worsening noise coming from the driver side right by the turbo and its sort of a rattle/screeching sound starting right after lifting off the throttle. Went to the dealership and they told me that all 3.3TT Stinger did that, that it came from the electronic wastegate actuator and that it was within operating specs… this sound is terrible and I just cannot believe anyone has to drive around with that. Can anyone tell me if its normal or not? Anyone had the same problem? What did you do?

Here is a video of the noise :

You can hear the noise better on the last 3 revs on the video

no, I can't hear a thing it says your video is private. I don't have to though. any screeching when you let off the turbos is not normal.

I modified the video settings, should be working now. Can you confirm that its accessible?

"Screeching" I hear not. a rattle, a little bit, I think. actually it sounds normal to me, with maybe something slightly loose making a sympathetic noise on the rpms coming down. I know that audio can't really duplicate a real life presence, something is always lost in translation.

That doesn't sound normal to me. It sounds like a turbo wheel is hitting the housing possibly. You could take the intake tube off and take a look.

Anyone telling you that sound is normal is a f*cking moron. Are you positive it's the turbo and not a loose heatshield or something?

It could be a malfunctioning waste gate....it sounds like something is fluttering..or that turbo is out of balance ( broken fins) and on its way out.
Its well established KIA techs are over their heads with the stinger....most of them have never worked on one.
Take it to a reputable tuner shop, they know their shit.
Where are you in canuck land?

I saw that from redditt. That is so not normal.

Short update : Went to another dealership, the tech said it needed the turbo assembly replaced. Turns out that its a faulty wastegate and they need to replace the full turbo assembly aswell as some oil feed tube thats currently backordered (they order it when changing the turbo because they tend to break as soon as they take it off). So it could be weeks to months untill I get my car back… at least I got a sick Chevy Malibu… uggh.

Thanks for all the replies.

To answer Kodiak : im in Quebec city, did a quick online search and couldn’t find a reputable Stinger/KDM tuner shop around. And you’re right, at the first dealership that I went (the biggest Kia dealership of the city) they had only one guy who ever worked on a Stinger before and didn’t know a thing about it when I first came in to change my starter that also failed earlier this year (have not been very lucky with my car this year).

I was wondering, do any of you know if its possible to go in a Genesis dealership and have some work under warranty done there? I suppose the techs in the Genesis dealerships would be more used to work on 3.3TT GDI engines as its in the G70

I was thinking that exact same thing...I guess you could call them and see. Some have a genesis and kia dealership together or both have the same ownership. If I have any major issues thats my plan...cant hurt to ask.
I have 105k now..but extended warranty to 200k.

I have the answer to this.

Yes and No

Yes - a Genny Dealer CAN do the warranty work AS LONG AS the Dealer ALSO has a kia dealership in the same chain of ownership and is willing to file the paperwork under the Kia dealer they own. If they do not have a Kia dealer under the same ownership company then they cannot do the warranty work.

The only reason I know this at all, is because I have an Elantra N on order with my local Genny Dealer, and I asked them about warranty work on my stinger. The sales manager did not know but was willing to go up the chain of command and find out for me because the question intrigued him as well. It went up the chain and the OWNER of the dealership called Kia corporate and got confirmation from them about it.
