Sure you could but it makes no point doing that. The bottom part of the OEM box acts as a heat shield and to funnel the cool air from the duct towards the filter.You can run those intakes without the bottom box as well.

Yeah, flip them up as if you were locking the top piece, then push down hard while keeping them in the up position, they will pop off.Yes they pop off fairly easy with a little force and can be saved and popped back on if you ever want to return the airbox to its original form.
