Aftermarket wheel and tires woes

Close, but not touching, obviously.

19x8.5 +40 puts the front wheel almost 1/2" closer to the strut than stock. I would think your wheel is precious close to the strut.

I do believe wheel diameter matters on this car as the strut slopes away from the hub so larger wheels should gain strut clearance.

No, Merlin. We are concerned about the space between the rim/tire and the strut in this post. Not the wheel to brake clearance. :p

This was my front without 5mm spacers. Couldn't get cardboard from a cereal box through.

Got my car back finally. I have to take my winter wheels and tires somewhere next winter and have them thoroughly check clearances. The rubbing wasn't that bad they said. Just enough to put a little rubber on to the shock. He said it looks like from the angle it only happened when turning sharply. Will definitely decide in the future to go somewhere that is able to understand the clearances that are particular to the stinger.

The point I was trying to make is that if I am that close to my caliper and not rubbing anything, then it looks to me like the caliper would rub before anything else.

I don't even know where I am looking in that pic of yours!? That looks like a blurry closeup of the valve stem!? How is that possible? (Not being a car guy is so limiting at times like these. )

I happen to be installing my new wheel setup and snapped a few pics to help clear up the strut clearance we are talking about.

I'm looking at a couple of different 18x8.5 wheels in the front (TSW Interlagos, Enkei TY5) with a choice of ET25 / 35 or 50 for one, ET20/45 for the other. Which offset(s) would be the best bet?

The wheels I just got are 18x8.5 et 20. I would not want to go any lower offset as the outward fitment is flush/slightly poking with the body. I would probably go with the ET 25 but I like a more aggressive fitment, I think most on here would say to go with the 35. The 35 will be ~.6" closer to the strut than what I have pictured above. So very close.

Thanks. So either 25 or 35 should work? I don't mind poking - just don't want any rubbing (stock springs for now).. These are going to be my auto-x/track wheels/tires, so not too worried if it "looks bad" - I'm a "go before show" guy anyway - I'm going down to 18s for cheaper tires.. Paying a BIT extra for black wheels, which I really like..

I admit I do not have a good feel for what rubs as I am just starting with wheels on this car. Tire Diameter/width will also affect rubbing on fender/liners. I too am an autocrosser but not with the stinger. I curious what wheels and tires you plan to run.

I threw you wheels in the little spreadsheet I made to determine wheel fitment

I've more or less decided on the TY5s. I'm planning to run 245/40-18 and 285/35-18 Pilot 4s.
