Aftermarket Exhaust systems and goofy ideas

So I'm looking at various aftermarket exhaust systems for the Stinger just because I am bored and waiting on a contractor to come by the house. I start looking at some of these exhaust systems and their gimmicks and I am baffled (pun intended) by some of the ridiculous....yes ridiculous designs. Since when do exhaust systems need an expansion chamber like the one on the top of your water heater? Complete BS.

I'd stick with Borla or Megan Racing....these others add unnecessary weight and are using these extra tanks as though this was SteamPunk build hour.

That second one, they look like polished soup cans. Hey, steam punk is cool. Star Wars space ships are so steam punk, all those analogue buttons and protrusions for smacking your head on, etc.

Those are almost all helmholtz resonators, there purpose is strictly to reduce unwanted drone and low frequency noise at crusing rpms.

Bingo -- the drone is resonance at specific frequencies, airflow past a chamber like those will create a resonance that can cancel it out.

It's the same thing that happens when you roll your windows down partially, and your vehicle speed interacts to create that awful buffeting. Roll your Stinger's rear windows down to different levels while you accel/decel through different speeds and your whole car is a resonator being tuned.

In theory, you could make exhaust resonators with a slip fit and incrementally adjust their size to move their effect up and down the rev range. Ideally the exhaust company does this research, instead of just slapping one on randomly.

Everyone seems to give the Borla S exhaust a thumbs up. No helmholtz tanks adding extra weight. If you don't want noise....stay stock.
