Additional Mechanical Insurance??

I was pondering something a few minutes ago. I was wondering if there is the way to purchase additional insurance on top of normal auto insurance if something with the motor or components goes wrong. I was mainly thinking about when I mod my car, if the dealership for some reason doesn't cover under warranty you could fall back on the other insurance. Just a thought and you all have been very knowledgeable about many topics so I thought I would ask. If some of these mods technically make the car not street legal in CA there has to be an additional insurance that can piggy back the other.
