Repost: "I am hearing a weird noise from the car when it's locked and sitting in my garage. It'll happen hours after the car was last driven. It sounds like a motor or actuator buzzing for a few seconds. Any idea what this is? I'm worried it'll kill my battery if the car isn't driven for a few days"

New info:
  • Noise sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car.
  • Not mirrors, seats, ac, anything like that
  • Key isn't being moved
  • Sounds like a small motor or actuator or pump for a second or two and easily heard if I'm in the garage
  • Sounds like a noise the electric parking brake would make when applied. Not sure why it would make the sound so long after the car is driven and parked.
  • Coild it be a battery vent closing?
  • Adjustable suspension relaxing?
  • Fuel pump?
Kind of stumped. Car has 7000km on it and runs like a dream. Haven't had a single issue or complaint.

Welcome to you, and to your ventriloquist squirrels nesting in your battery box! (I have no idea, otherwise.)

Can you tell if it's coming from under the seats (between the rear wheels) where the fuel tank is, or under the trunk where the battery and spare tire are?
I'd try leaving the hatch open and remove the spare wheel cover to get a better pinpoint on it.

The problem is its so random. I will be in the garage for an hour and it just happens randomly for a second or two. I've never timed it or anything so it's hard to capture unless I set up a camera. It's not really a big deal, I was just more curious to see if anyone knew what it was.

It's probably just a fuel evaporation leak test, I've heard mine making the noise before in my garage and caught my CR-V doing it a bunch of times too.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
It's nothing to worry about: just the leak detection pump running in order to check that your fuel tank is fully sealed. Google 'DMTL' or 'EVAP System Monitor'.
