Hey guys...my name is Bob Williams, I am with Koons Kia in Virginia, one of the bigger dealerships in the US...I'm actually not here to sell cars, but to give you any info you need.....like insider stuff....ask me anything, you'll get truthful answers.....

When are Kia dealers going to catch up to the big boys of the service world (BMW, Audi, Mercedes)? Those guys bend over backwards for their customers where we beg for answers most times.

What are your honest thoughts on how the 3.3L equipped Stingers will do for resale in a few years on the used car market? Most Kia's have bad resale, will the Stinger break the mold?

Hi Bob, I purchased a 2018 GT2 (i think) on Sep. 29, 2018 in Puyallup Wash. Today I went to get my plates and registration at the dealer. When I got home I noticed the DOT registration says its a 2019 but some of the paperwork says its a 2018 and some say its 2019. I called the dealer and left a message but nobody has got back to me yet. Have you ever heard of this happening? Probably just a mistake but something I will have to take time to fix.

In every state I've ever lived in, the year is the year of expiration. So in my case, it would say SEP on the left side of the plate and the replaceable sticker on the right says 2019... so it expires SEP of 2019. Sure that's not the case?

No, not tabs, it is the car registration from DOT that says 2019 but build date on the door jamb says 3/20/2018. I then checked all paperwork from the day purchase and found some say its a 2018, some say its a 2019.

Was it sold as a 2018 or 2019 model? Hope it's 2018.

The window sticker and sales person said it was a 2018 when I purchased as does the door jamb but the registration I just got today says its a 2019 as do many of the docs from day of signing, I didnt notice the difference until today when I got my plates and registration from the dealer.

Good question....I don't think that they thought that out...I agree, Stinger, Genesis, customers should receive treatment like Lexus and Mercedes....i think because Kia is used to selling cheaper cars, and setting the dealerships up like that, Stinger customers don't receive 50k car facilities like Lexus....

To be honest, I have no idea, as a Kia dealer, and hearing about how they want to move the product forward, I can only hope it will follow...if Kia keeps production low, and the demand stays high, well, you know that outcome...

1). Are the dealerships actually owned by Kia, or do you pay to have their franchising? In such case, do you buy the cars at wholesale and just sale them at what prices you find appropriate for, your market? If so, what does a base GT cost at whole sale?

2). Why do options such as OEM mud flaps and OEM floor mats cost $400 from the factory and as an option when you can by them for around $150 from Kia? Anyone can put in floor mats in less than 5 minutes.

3). What's up with the pin stripping up charge?

4). What is up with the shipping and delivery fee... Generally around $1000... You're the business, why are you charging your customer for delivery to your property? If anything it should be a hidden fee added to MSRP, which makes it seem sketchy. That's the basis for question 1, if my suspicions are correct, it would make more sense.

i would call your dealer, and if you don't get results, I would call your DMV, and lodge a complaint.....I know in MD/DC/VA.....they do not play around with that....good luck.

!....Kia franchising is independently owned...and yes, believe it or not, we actually pay invoice for the cars.....are there incentives to the dealer, yes...do we pass them onto the customer, yes....so, how do we make money?....in our case ....volume, finance, and service....

Ok... You kind of answered one question...can you be more specific to each one? Never seen a factory Stinger with pin stripes but you still charge for it? Just for starters...

we actually pay invoice, sounds crazy, but we do.
2- don't pay for add on's.....waste of money....dealers put on to increase price....if you really want paint sealant, pin strips, whatever, do on own...

How does your shop feel about after market mods regarding warranty?

I will ask tomorrow, but common sense says that if you put crazy stuff on a factory car its not going to end well....
What would you define as "crazy stuff"?
