• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Active Hood

I recently had a dog run out in front of my Stinger GT, I was on the brakes quickly and was only doing 10kph when the dog bounced off the front (dead centre), the dog run away uninjured and the only damage the dog caused was a cracked number plate cover.
This is where it gets interesting - The Active Hood deployed instantly, obviously thinking it was a pedestrian.
Just out of curiosity did the autonomous emergency braking & the forward collision alert kick in or was the dog too small to set it off? Just wondering as it set off the active hood.

Not sure but I've told the Kia service dude to find out - I suppose you could measure the resistance of the device & then put a resistor across the terminals - I'm determined to find out & do what is necessary to override the actuators.

Why don’t you go ahead and disable the airbags too, I hear they are very expensive to replace.

No, these systems don't kick in if you are already on the brakes and the dog was a fair sized Labradoodle. We have a lot of birds here where we live and bird strikes are common, I'm hoping the system can differentiate between all the variables that are possible lol.

Well as it turns out there is no way to override the system - it's just to smart - but Kia AU is looking into what, if anything, can be done to improve the system. I'm not bitching about the safety features of the Stinger, I bought it for all those reasons, but I will be a little sheepish if anything flogs out in front of the car from now on lol

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
