Does anyone know if there is a way to update the infotainment system to the new purply looking one on the 2022? I'd imagine its only for the 10.25" displays but worth a shot.

My spring update of last year (or early summer, I forget), turned "purply".

if it hasn't, 45 min with a computer that has an sd card slot , and install in the car and you are up to date!

Hey Vipe,

Sorry to resurrect, but I've been searching the forums for answers and can't find a post dedicated to clearly laying out how this is actually done.

My 2019 GTS seems to have ancient software. I just used the navigation updater to download the latest software from Kia Mapcare Kia Mapcare | Customer Login

I have the folder on my desktop. Do I simply drag and drop onto my car's existing SD card, overwriting what's there, and then hit update in the infotainment?

Once you download and install the navigation updater software , from Navigation Updater | Official Kia Navigation Update Website , you should be able to select your vehicle and insert your SD card into the computer, select that as the destination on the application and it should download everything and put the necessary files on the SD card for you. No manual dragging and dropping at all. Depending on your internet this can take from 15 to an hour .

I have the bigger infotainment system, but just did the April '22 update recently. It was probably a lot more hassle than it should have been. The step-by-step instructions are less than clear.

At first, I did not see the SD card slot in the middle of my head unit. I assumed I would need a USB thumb drive. Instructions said that I would need about 45GB disk space to download the file to my computer hard drive and then the upgrade files would be installed onto the USB drive. Went to the store and was happy to find that USB drives were on sale and I could get a 128GB drive for about the same cost as a much smaller one. Of course I bought the bigger one. Directions said it needed to be formatted into FAT32 so it could be read by the car system. FAT32 has a limit of 64GB due to the number of blocks a partition can be divided into. Partitioned the USB drive into 2 and tried. No dice. Partitioned into 3 and tried. No dice. Went back to store and bought 64GB USB drive. No dice. Partitioned into 2. This seemed to work, but now I didn't have enough space on hard drive. Emptied trash, deleted 1000+ photos, deleted caches, log files, old apps, large files, etc. Had less space than before! Noticed that my automatic updates was turned on and that it had downloaded the install files for that. Ran the installer. Finally gained enough space to download the Nav update. Finally got it to install onto the USB drive. Ran the update program while I was washing my car. Said it was successful. Shut car down to finish washing/drying. Started car back up to move into garage. Radio worked fine, but Nav system was saying SD card not found. Found the SD card slot in the middle of the head unit and removed it. Tried using an SD/USB adapter on my computer but the adapter was bad. Loaded SD card in slot of a laptop and it could be read and formatted as needed. Tried downloading the NAV updater and ran into the same lack of hard drive space and had to do the software update first. Finally got the new software on the original SD card. Put the SD card back into the slot. Nav and radio are now working fine.

TL/DR: just download directly onto the SD card and not a USB thumb drive.

Re fat32, Fat32 supports max file size of 4GB and max partition size of 2TB.

Use the right tool for the job, windows format isn't the right tool.
