Has anyone you know had a bad experience after removing that section of the grille ?You mean the solid section on the far left/right of the grill? I think that's part of the mold/design for the grill. You'd likely need to dremel, but beware that by my estimation removing the solid sections might remove some of the rigidity and allow the center to flex inward a bit when travel at highway speeds. Just a guess based on how air pressure and plastics work. It's hard to say, or know why those solid sections are there. Plenty of air is already passing through the openings, so it may not matter [other than to maybe keep rain out of the far left/ride for some unforeseen reason?].

That pic wasn’t mines. I have yet to install mines and will probably get someone to do it. I grabbed that pic from a guy on fb who had the same ones i did and he mentioned that his snorkels was blockedNo one on the forum has reportedly done it, at least no posts I've read. How much of the intake mouth is that section blocking?
It’s on the 18-21 base GT V6My grille dose NOT have those plastic inserts in the sides. Mine is also the version with the radar unit in the grille so that probably is the reason why. However even if it did the snorkels I have probably won't be effected since they sit farther back from the grille. As others have stated a Dremel and some spare time will fix your problem.
Weird...I have the base GT and don’t have those side pieces. Not that I’m complaining lol..It’s on the 18-21 base GT V6
Hey I know this is an old thread but I was looking around for others experience 3d printing those snorkels. How can I get in touch with that Brian fella on FB? I want to buy those asap!
thanks for the info, appreciate it pimpI got mine secondhand from @Rodtheviking, maybe he has a different source.
Regarding the shape of the shroud, I removed the sections blocking the snorkels when I installed them 6-7 months ago and have had no issues at 100+ mph.
I did them on the car which probably took like an hour because I didn't want to dremel and fling stuff everywhere (I figure off the car it would've taken half the time). Instead I used an old soldering iron to melt through at each corner, then traced a channel connecting them, then a small detail saw and file for cleanup.
I did do the Dremel (but I gotta say the soldering iron trick would have been cleaner), and like you, no issues up to 130.I got mine secondhand from @Rodtheviking, maybe he has a different source.

The dremel or soldering iron are to modify the radiator shroud, not the snorkels. Since it blocks where the snorkel openings sit, if you don't modify it your alternative is to remove it entirely. This is where the phrase, "You get what you pay for" I bought the Velossa Tech ones and they sit exactly where they are suppose to. No dremel or solder iron required.
I never mentioned anything about the snorkels being modified. As I said "You get what you paid for". Velossa Tech don't require any alterations to fit. Over time you never know, modification to the grill could lead to cracking due to loss of structural integrity.
Have you had your bumper off, or did you have someone else do the install for you? Because this doesn't make any sense.I never mentioned anything about the snorkels being modified. Looking at this pic, you don't have the shroud at all. You say the velossa tech don't require alterations, but leaving the shroud off is technically an alteration. You're leaving the shroud off because even with the velossa tech snorkles, the shroud and snorkles don't fit unless you either remove the shroud entirely, or make changes to the shroud so the velossa tech snorkles fit.I never mentioned anything about the snorkels being modified. The Velossa Tech and 3D printed snorkels are the same basic shape and follow the same path, which is blocked by the shroud. So in either case you're either modifying the shroud or removing it.
And if you've seen/felt how heavy duty the material is, I'd say the "don't change it, bad stuff might happen" is just as valid for removing it entirely. Which is to say, a pretty negligible concern, especially considering that people have been running both combinations for years at this point.
Should have said grill not shroud. I removed the shroud when installing. I did not need to modify the grill which is what the inital post was about. I did not dremel, use solder iron to remove the parts on the far left and right of the grill to allow air flow into the snorkel. I removed and installed my own snorkels and Intercooler. You can see from the picture that the grill does not interfere with air flow into them.Looking at this pic, you don't have the shroud at all. Which is the exact same issue as the 3d printed ones.
