Hello all,
I have been up and down these forms and in contact with kia through the dmv area and I have had no luck on find anything regarding this issue. I have a 2018 3.3l TT and when I went to the store the other day as I was leaving my car seemed to stay in a lower gear a little longer than it normally would, I wasn't bouncing off the rev limiter or anything but once the car did shift I immediately got a loud knocking noise from my driver side engine bay. I checked the oil and the car was a little low but nothing for concern, I ended up draining the oil this previous weekend to see if I had any metal shavings or anything in the old oil. the oil didn't have anything in it and looked completely normal. I have 114K on this car so I cant just drop it off at kia without getting ripped. id love to just build the engine and drive my beater since i would have it opened up if it is the camshaft or the valve spring but stingers don't have jack for internal engine upgrades still.
Has anyone had to replace a camshaft or spring valve for these yet?
A little more for the sound of the knock its not the tick that the injectors have at start up, this is a actual knock when you start the car it sounds like someone's tapping a hammer on my cylinder head for the driver side of the car the knock will subdue once the car is cranked over but the knock speeds up and gets louder as the rpms are raised in the engine.

Im just trying to see if anyone has insight on this before I open her up, or will the stinger finally get the Ls swap everyone wants to see and I just turn it into a drag car.

You have hpfp on the driver side. It makes knocking sound, especially when cold. Post a sound clip.

It would be extremely unusual to be a cam/spring/valve problem. Plus, when something goes wrong with those it doesn't fix itself.
I also think it was just something with the hpfp. Maybe an air bubble got pushed up from the fuel tank or something? But if it's running normally now then it definitely wasn't a critical failure.
e.g. if the tappet on the hpfp got messed up then it'd be making a racket all the time.

The car is not running normally,
one video is the start up of the car and the other is the car at around 2k rpms

I am not a mechanic, but it does sound like rod knock. Pretty bad!

I forwarded the clips to friend with 30 years as a ASE master tech experience. Based on sound only, sounds like rod knock too.

I'm gonna suggest flexplate might be loose?

And for your sake mate i hope i'm right.

It usually would be a lot louder and a more tinny sound tho'
