2022 (US) sequential tail lights retrofit?

Here is a pic of the Korean 21+ version that I grabbed off eBay. It does look like the top one might be removable. But that is clearly LED. Maybe I will pull the housing out of my 22 and see what I can see.
That Korean assembly has three leads on the harness going to the top lamp, and possibly four going to the bottom, the US version in my hand has just two leads.

The reason I know this is because I have already disassembled it. The bottom light is most definitely incandescent.

The top is merely the way to disconnect the harness from the LED strip.

Well okay. That is what I wanted to know. I am surprised about that one. I guess we will see if the Korean ones run sequentially on a US car. I would assume that since the plug appears to be the same. There are more wires to the turn light in the Korean version so there is some sort of controller someplace in the unit itself.

Yep, I was just saying that :). Since the whole taillight unit is being replaced, I presume the electronics are in that unit and it should work. I am crossing my fingers on this one. I was told it does work with older years, so I don't know why it wouldn't work for the newer one?

Possibly. There are six pins on the harness, which leaves room for some flexibility.

True. It needs 5 to function at all. GND, Turn, parking lights, brake and reverse. I assume there is probably something else that is a data bus of some sort to tell if there is something wrong. Since (most) of it is LED, they can't just look at voltage drop when current is applied. When I looked at the Korean video, I noticed that the hazzards were not sequential while the turns were. So I wonder if the 6th wire is hazards, and causes it to act differently? I think someone had a pinout of that harness. I'll see if I can find it.

Here is the video. I wonder if the hazard thing has something to do with the length of the pulse it is sent? Most of the video deals with the mods required to get the new center section in. But that part isn't relevant for the 22 since it already has that piece.

In this video he uses the LED resistors... I was crossing my fingers I would not need those, but if I do, I do...

That actually looks pretty sweet. I wasn't really a fan of the light bar before but it looks damn good. The turn signals are definitely amazing. Once again we get the crappy version over here.

Two quick updates….
First my lights allegedly shipped. So I assume I will have them in a week or two.
second, I talked with someone who had a 19 and put them on, they were plug and play according to him, he had no issues, and he didn’t use a resistor. So I’m feeling more confident about the whole thing.

Huh, had no idea that was a thing. When I started reading the article I was thinking: the Mustang does it! But that makes sense.

That also explains why the Audi's you see are kinda strange in how they blink.

TLDR: It worked. Details to follow in a bit when I put the videos together.

Here is the install video of the whole thing

I couldn't get the painted caps off the factory lights without risking breaking them. I went down to a local body shop, and they took them apart for me. They used a bit of WD40 to make it easier. They snapped right into the new ones once they were apart. I didn't want to risk it since I wasn't sure if I could even replace them without having a new one painted. I didn't want to get into that scenario.

Here are few pics including the actual Korean part numbers for the lights.

Ok so I was thinking that you had a 2018-2021 model. Any idea if these plug are play for older model cars?

Probably. The only thing you might need is the LED resistor to avoid the car thinking the bulb is out. No biggie if you do.

Here is where I got them. They were great and I would recomend them.

(Sorry, I thought I had this in the post, but I didn't.)

I was thinking of ordering the left and right tailights along with the center section, but that brings it to $1153. Still kinda painful.

I think I am going to order in the next couple days. $750 shipped seems pretty good compared to what I can find on ebay. Hopefully I dont get charged for shipping.
I didn't.

Their web site is sus. It initially gave me a price of just under $800 for the left, right and center lights, now they are over $1100. Around what everyone else charges.
Change what parts you are ordering. It will go down the ~750. $1100 is for the center section as well which you don’t need if you have a 22 (or even an older one I suppose).
