2022+ overboost

How do I know if my car is having overboost issues? So far I have not gone into limp mode in the car, atleast from what my understanding of limp mode is, but what should I look out for on my JB4 logs to make sure I’m running good and won’t have any issues? I plan to only run it on map 1, maybe map 2 if I’m trying to do a little drag race but other than that it’s just a fun daily for me so I’d like to keep it alive as long as possible.

Wait maybe I have experienced this before, had it twice where my turbos barely produced boost and sounded not as they usually do with the bovs I have on. Felt like I was driving an actual Kia lol! Had to unplug and replug tune to fix, is this a symptom of overboost?

I had to deal with that damn overboost for 2 years until I finally got jb4 with ewg wires done. Had to lower the wastegate adaptations ff from 50 to either 40 or 45 to not overboost anymore. Such a relief I tell you. I ended up setting it to 42 since that felt the best from pulling logs at 40 and 45. Was like a sweet spot.

Basically from my understanding even stock stingers can overboost. But once you free up intake and exhaust thats when it will happen more. The wategates stay shut during acceleration and with the added free flow they build up too much boost too quickly and the ecu panics and throws you into limp mode. Once you lower the ff setting they open slightly so the turbos don't overboost. Kind of like bleeding pressure slightly.

Now I can go wot without any worry and trust me I did many wot runs on the freeway just from testing. When I had it at wastegate ff 50 I would still overboost until I lowered it. Studying the logs taught me quiet a bit about my car and fueling. Not sure if you mix e30 but at least with my car it isn't too happy once I go over like e32 mix so I try to keep it around e30 or below. I have the fuel it bluetooth kit so i can see true e85 content always and the jb4 integrates with the fuel it kit as well to help run better. And it helps fill up at the gas station as you don't have to guess with the fuel it app.

Yes also I would change oil every 3-4k miles. I was doing it at near 5k miles and that's a bit too long. It depends also on driving style but it's hard to not smile on map 3 getting on it a bit.

You'll definitely know it when you go into limp mode. You could press the pedal to the floor and the car will hardly move out of its own way. Unfortunately when you overboost you won't always get a CEL unless it happens at least twice in a row in consecutive drive cycles. If you hook up a OBD2 code reader to the car you'll notice the overboost code as pending before it trips the CEL. I had this happen several times in my '22 GT1 even when 100% stock. Many people said to allow the car to warm up, but this even happened after driving on the highway for 2 hours. Pretty sure the car was completely up to operating temp. It usually happens when it's colder out (for me usually below 50 F) since the air is denser. It was definitely more sensitive when I put in the intakes.

Seriously considering getting the JB4 with EWG wires if anything to finally put the issue to rest since I'm pretty sure KIA will never full troubleshoot the issue.

Kia won't do shit. People in past have brought their 100% stock stinger to them to diagnose. Nothing came out of it. To them the car is dead they need to sell more suvs asap and move on to the next hype train.

Exactly my situation after I added an aFe intake on my stock -23 GT2. I put the stock system back in and no further overboost/P0049 codes.

From my understanding, a LAP3 ECU swap will also cure this problem which is the route I am going to take as I don't want a jb4.

I think you mean any ECU Tune right? Even a BMS Back End Flash to the ECU should be able to resolve those problems with overboost.
