You guys experiencing this issue can you state your mileage? Curious if it seems to happen to only higher mileage cars or not.
YesBeen following this one. Thanks for the closure. Sounds like a good shop doing their due diligence. Too bad it took so long. A question, so from the driver's pov, is 2-4-6 on the driver's side of the engine?
Really appreciate you coming back and giving all these details. These kind of posts are incredibly valuable to the DIY guys and other owners that run into a similar issue.Ok, I'm here to deliver:
Problem was misfiring on cylinders 2-4-6 (One Bank only)
They found the issue to be coming from the variable force solenoid (P/N: 24379-3L100)
Here are the list of things they checked before getting to the solenoid:
1.) Inspected Gas. found to be ok
2.) Reset engine and adaptive values
3.) swapped coils 6 and 5 and spark plugs 6 and 1. Test drove. Misfires on 2,4,6 still. no change.
4.) Inspected wiring from coils 2,4,6. Measured their resistance values and all within spec.
5.) inspected for pinched wires. None found
6.) removed O2 sensor on left side and inspected Catalytic converter. no debris no clogging found.
7.) Swapped VFS(variable Force Solenoid). there are two, one on each bank. Test drove. Misfiring changed from 2,4,6 to now misfiring on 1,3,5
So they replaced the faulty VFS and misfiring went away.
I also talked with the tech and walked me through what he did and I'm pretty convinced that it is now fixed.
He told me that he had to drive the car for a while 20-30 mins in order to get the misfiring to come up.
Will report back if misfiring comes back.
I'm very happy with the work they did and happy that they went through troubleshooting process with me. oh and they also did the recall work too (SC300)
What is wrong with the engine?I have a 2018 Kia Stinger GT2 and it has been misfiring in the same manner.(CEL is on)I take it to dealer to check that out and get 2 recalls performed. They were suppose to return car same day or early next day. I get no updates for a full week. After 7 days+, they call and tell me engine is bad. my car has 62,000, I am the 2nd owner only has warranty to 60,000. Should I take it somewhere besides dealership for the engine swap?
You didn't buy a CPO I take it. If you did, your still good on engine / drivetrain warranty for another 40,000 miles and 4 years. "engine is bad" is meaningless.I have a 2018 Kia Stinger GT2 and it has been misfiring in the same manner.(CEL is on)I take it to dealer to check that out and get 2 recalls performed. Could be a burnt exhaust valve - but I doubt it. It would be the first stinger I have heard of with a burnt valve (Stinger has sodium filled valves). They perform 2 recalls THEN tell you the engine is what?
It is misfiring on one cylinder? So? Common as horseshit problem on just about every car out there eventually.. Work out if it is the spark plug, coil, fuel injector. Replace. $100 plus $100 labour. It's not hard.
It does not need a new engine.
They are telling me it was caused by a misfiring spark plug. The CEL was only for4 about 15 miles, temp was normal, everything was running fine. They say the misfire caused scoring of one of the cylinders. I authorized them $109 for 30 min diag. What is wrong with the engine?
Misfires don't cause scoring! They are telling me it was caused by a misfiring spark plug. The CEL was only for4 about 15 miles, temp was normal, everything was running fine. They say the misfire caused scoring of one of the cylinders. I authorized them $109 for 30 min diag.
NO. You should take it somewhere else for some ACTUAL diagnosis, and then repair the problem.Should I take it somewhere besides dealership for the engine swap?
I can't seem to find this part. got a pic? They found the issue to be coming from the variable force solenoid (P/N: 24379-3L100)
You're lucky just changing the plug fixed it. Beware, if the same cylinder has another misfire, the coil is the problem. I had the same issue and the new plug became cracked within a week. Fortunately i had not put in the HKS plugs yet.I have a 2019 GT1 w81k and had a misfire about 2-3 months ago. Hooked it up to a scanner from Autozone and had them printout the findings. This was right before I got the JB4. I had a misfire on cyl 1. I pulled the plug and it had a crack in the porcelain. Ordered the Denso’s and gapped them to .026. Never had another misfire. Installed the JB4 and regapped the plugs to .022, she’s still running mint. I had the K&N intakes, Borla exhaust, and a Pedal Commander on before the JB4 and had no issues, no CELs.
I experienced the same thing. Replaced the plug, twice, and each new plug was damaged within a couple of weeks, returning to misfire under boost. Only when the coil pack was changed did the next new plug stay healthy. You're lucky just changing the plug fixed it. Beware, if the same cylinder has another misfire, the coil is the problem. I had the same issue and the new plug became cracked within a week. Fortunately i had not put in the HKS plugs yet.
