So I was driving my wifes 2018 sorento last sunday when it refused to exceed 65mph. Got off the highway and now it wont go past 19mph. Called kia and they came and got it. Called today to see what the status was. Blown engine, 13000 miles. I had it in the week before for an oil change and tsb on the ECU. They were having issues with the valves? I believe they detuned the engine to preserve it over the course of the 100000 mile warranty. I suspect the detune was the catalyst. Purely speculation. Anyone else driving a 2018 sorento?

wow. I mean you should have never thrown the Stinger Turbos and ECU in the sorento. :)

Sorry for your issues. Hopefully Kia can take care of the engine swap promptly

Yes, my wife drives an EX V6 AWD

I have a 2016 with the 2.0T that had the ECU update. It was for a knock sensor detection so if it detects rod bearing knock, it will put the car into limp mode. They also increased the warranty on the long block to life. Ours is doing fine though even after the update. We are up to 60K on the clock now.

it felt and sounded normal, just wouldn't accelerate past those speeds?

very odd, I've never heard of a "blown" engine that sounded completely normal.
It didnt blow like throw a rod oil all over the place. It just went into limp mode and wouldnt accelerate. When I called for the status on the the car they said you need a new engine.

Like mentioned before, the 2.0T is part of that recall so it behaved like it should if an issue is detected. New engine will get you back on the road and going for years. I've visited a couple of dealers over the past few months and the one thing they have in common to getting things scheduled is the fact that they have been doing a lot of engine repairs/replacements.

Throwing twin turbos on a 3.8 V6 is a thing we can expect in the coming year.

I believe the Sorento is going the way of the Dodo bird. The Telluride top price is less than the Sorento's now, it has three rows standard where people have leg room in the last row and still room for stuff in the back, and looks nicer.

2019 GT 300hp v6. She doesn't drive my car much, I think it's the open dump valves that keep her away from it.
