Hello!

Anyone have a 3.3L without a LSD and had one installed by the dealer?

I'm considering eating the cost. Even on 275 rears and 245 fronts, can't grip if I WOT at 30mph or so. Fresh Firehawk Indy 500s, too. (I don't track or drag it. It's just annoying trying to get around traffic or around town and having to be that aware of the throttle because it is easy to throw sideways).

*No, I don't just WOT it around town, but I do some spirited twisty driving on the back roads. It's a safety thing for me, and overall cheaper on tires long-term.

I wouldn't let dealer service touch my car unless it's absolutely necessary. Bought an LSD off ebay and swapped it myself: G70 - jack points?

Job isn't difficult but tedious. No doubt dealer can do it. If it were me and I can't do it myself, I'd look for a good indy shop.

I'll get my hands dirty, no issues there. My concern is, would there have to be some kind of a ECU or a TCU computer reprogram? I'm sure the car is going to be confused, no? Also, is it night and day?

Any specialty tools or any hiccups in the process you wouldn't mind sharing? Cheers!

Wait... Is that just a whole new pumpkin? I meant disassemble diff and install. Did you need new seals for the driveshaft?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

I wish it were an electronic LSD, like on Camaro 1LE and Blackwings. This is a purely mechanical LSD. No reprogramming necessary. Not really any special tools, though you might need a sledge hammer or gear puller to push the 1/2 shaft off the wheel hub splines. That was a Bish! Once you get the 1/2 shaft off the splines, you simple pull it off the diff. Prybar might help, but it basically pulls straight out.

Lowering/raising the diff requires a floor jack. A helper would be a very good idea. I had my son help me, which was great.

I had to replace the rear splash shields at the same time. You won't need to, so you just need to remove enough control arms to swing the drive hub out of the way.

Mine is a 2.0T, so normal street driving there is absolutely no difference. It doesn't make enough TQ to over-power rear tire traction in a straight line. We do however run both our G70 6MT and Stinger on the track. G70 6MT came with LSD and that makes a difference when the car is leaned over and weight transferred to one side, leaving the inside wheel/tire hanging with little traction. Really helps to accelerating coming out of a turn.

The LSD came from a '21 G70 6MT with only 12k miles on it IIRC, so it looked pretty much brand new. Seals were in excellent shape, so no need for new ones. It was a straight swap. I did change out the gear oil with Mobil 1 and Valvoline synthetic 75w90, with a few Oz of CRC TransX additive mixed it.

is your car AWD?

I use the harbor freight beam adapter Steel Floor Jack Cross Beam.

Jack up each side, just before the front pinch seam area. Place jack stands in factory locations on that side. Repeat on other side.

To get the thing to fit initially, I have to use a 2nd jack at the rear pinch seam to jack up slightly. It's a convoluted way, but works. Done it a number of times now for oil changes, inspections, and will do so again for a tire rotation.

That'll work.

I have two large floor jacks stationed in my garage. I just use one on each side. I do use jack stands as back-ups (next to the floor jacks), whenever I need to climb under the car, even though none of my floor jacks I've owned have ever failed catastrophically. Doesn't hurt to have back up... JIC.

The blue jack shown above is actually our "travel" racing floor jack . It's lightweight aluminum and we typically take it to track days and AutoXs. I've got several other floor jack actually, included several motorcycle floor jacks. I actually started out trying a flatform style motorcycle floor jack, which I though might be better for this purpose. Ended up, uh, not so much. The blue "racing" jack proved easier to modulate/balance. It is only holding the weight of the diff... nothing else. I had my son, so that helped the most.

FWIW, I have the LSD on my RWD 3.3, and the rear still likes to go to the right when floored from a stop, even in comfort mode with traction control on. Not so much that you pee your pants, but there had better not be anything really close to the right side of the car when I do it.
