Stinger Premium RWD vs Honda Accord 2.0T EX-L

Hi everyone,

I'm in the market for my new car and I'm stinger premium RWD (with driver assist) and Honda Accord 2.0T Ex-L in my shortlist. I test drove both the cars and below are my observations.

Stinger 2L Premium RWD
1. Acceleration is good though there is an evident initial turbo lag.
2. Handling is absolutely superb and I tackled the corners without any hesitation.
3. Interior is superb. Fit and finish of the material is top notch.
4. Seating is bit low and I felt getting in and out of the car to be bit difficult.
5. Comes with Full LED headlights and Harmon Kadron Speakers.

Accord 2.0T EX-L
1. The car is spacious and there is nothing to complain about the interior.
2. The acceleration was good but I didn't actual feel that the car has 273lb-ft of torque. May be I didn't drive it hard.
3. The driver assistance or latest safety features is standard.
4. The perceived high resale value.

I live in Raleigh,NC and the Kia dealer here is quoting a total price of $33,540 (out of door price) for the premium RWD with drive assist and the honda dealer is quoting $30500 (out of door) for 2.0T EX-L.
I don't want to sacrifice the features (sunroof, premium audio, and memory seats) and mpgs hence I didn't prefer the base GT model.
I'm confused between the above two cars. Did anyone else face the same situation ? what made you to buy the stinger over the accord (or any other car in your shortlist) ?.

You forgot to list (amongst other things) the fact, that the Stinger is a hatchback, the Honda is not. Big difference!

I looked very briefly at the Accord to replace my G8. I bailed for a couple of reasons. Style went to the Stinger. The Accord only has a 2.0T engine and there are no suspension or handling options on the Accord which is basically a grocery hauler family car. All Accords are the same, just different trim levels including the "Sport" model which isn't very sporty, IMHO. The 3.3TT sold me on the Stinger, plus the exclusivity. The car really turns heads. No contest, but cost can be a huge factor. JMHO. The Accord is an excellent car if that's what you like.

-I think the interiors are a wash (know that the new Accord interior is excellent).
-Acceleration is similar (however, did anyone feel more/less turbo lag in either of them?)
-Style goes to the Stinger, no question. The Stinger is attractive, the Accord is actively unattractive. Like, the Accord doesn't even get to be called 'generic' because that face is so ugly. Also, the Accord's back seat/rear looks bulbous from outside.
-Accord comes with remote start and active safety stuff standard.

However, maybe someone can answer a few things for me that I am not sure about:

1. I have a kid, so will need a rear-facing car seat in the back. The Accord's back seat is absolutely huge and the front seat doesn't have to be slid forward at all. How is the Stinger with a rear-facing child seat in the back?
2. Handling. Stinger handles great. However, how good is the Accord's (I didn't drive them back to back)
3. The relative turbo lags, as mentioned above.

Look in to lease then buyout option. You should be able to get $7,200 lease cash. Then buy out the car in a month. Would be cheaper than accord.

This is as I have read on different threads
1. Should fit in Stinger fine
2. Accord handles well but not even close to accord (See youtube video by Alex on autos and Redline reviews for a 2.0l model, they compare these at the end)
3. I think accord might have slightly less but for strong acceleration, power needs to go to rear wheels (youtube will help)

I have a rear facing infant car seat, the Chicco KeyFit30 on the passenger side. No issues, really. My wife is about 5'-7" and fits fine in front of it. Taller passengers in front might not like it, but that's for most cars. The only drawback is the sloping roofline, since it makes getting the seat in with the handle upward a bit of a dance.

You forgot to list (amongst other things) the fact, that the Stinger is a hatchback, the Honda is not. Big difference!

Also, warranty, Trans: 8 speed - CVT, sporty looks.

Actually, the 2.0T Accord has a 10-speed, not the CVT.

Lease cash on the Stinger is better with the AWD, unless RWD is a must. I’ll advise you to take the stuff you plan on using/carrying and put it in the car to see how it fits. You’re on a Stinger forum so we are going to root for it. It will be the one that offers the most fun and you won’t be able to just walk away without looking back at it. I still do that with my Optima, even though it’s a hybrid, I love how it performs and have to do a look back to check it out when I get out of it.

Actually, the 2.0T Accord has a 10-speed, not the CVT.

I read a review that said the Accord doesn’t have active lane centering? If true that would be an instant deal-breaker for me. The active lane centering on the Stinger works well and is only recently being matched by a few makers (Nissan/Toyota) on other reasonably priced cars.

The radar cruise on the Stinger is very smooth with few mistakes. While not perfect, it is much better than most I have used. Combined with the lane centering it makes for a relaxing car to commute in heavy traffic.

The stereo in the Stinger sounds very good. I’m not sure how well the Accord would match up?

Fuel will cost more in the Stinger. The Stinger will get worse mileage and Kia recommends 91 octane top-tier gas.

Honda sells over 300k Accords per year. Kia probably won’t have 20k Stingers on the road after the first year. That makes the Stinger kind of interesting.

I'm sure this has been covered here, but is it ok to use regular fuel with the 2.0 Stinger engine? I understand there may be some power loss.

Also, what is "lane centering"? I have a CX-5 with lane keep assist (so, buzzes/flashes/gently nudges steering when I approach a lane line), but is that technically "lane centering?" Does the Stinger basically drive itself in traffic with this + radar cruise control?

There is already some discussion about accord vs stinger in the accord forum. Most people chose accord over stinger due to the price
and fuel economy. Also most of those accord buyers are not aware of the lease cash offered by Kia for stinger.

Yes you are right but most of the dealers in my vicinity have only premium 2.0T RWD in their inventory. They are giving dealer discounts of around 10%-15% off MSRP on the models in their inventory.

Based on the 5 pages or so that I read I'd get the Accord.
