Not sure why some are defending Kia for their own mistakes. Make them compensate you guys. Don’t be so passive... this is your money and your time. They have insurance for stuff like this for a reason.
To help me understand, what are you seeking compensation for... specifically? If they acknowledge the problem, offer a respray, and warranty the repair, then they have compensated you. I assume they will also cover rental car costs why the repair is being performed or provide a loaner car. No car manufacturer is perfect. Every last swinging one of them has had to issue a recall for defective parts. Knowing this, you still purchased an automobile. If a sensor had failed, you had a faulty fuel pump, the air conditioner stopped cooling, etc., they would only fix the part that failed as with any recall. I have never been compensated beyond the repair for any recall.

Typically when people are compensated above and beyond the repair being performed is when the company denies the need for a fix or withholds critical safety or legal information. Ford paid huge penalties for denying faulty transmissions, VW paid huge penalties for lying about diesel mileage and emissions, and Takata paid out the wazoo for faulty products that put people at risk. KIA seems to be acknowledging the problem and is fixing it, so again, what do you want to be paid for? If it makes sense, I'll get behind it myself. However it looks like you want to be paid for being inconvenienced and that is not likely to happen. Good luck though, the squeaky wheel does get the oil. Maybe there will be a steep discount or incentive cash for a new car within the KIA/Hyundai family? I've seen stranger things in this age of entitlement.

Hello there,

Im new here, greetings from Germany.
I‘ve planned to order me a Stinger 2.0 T-GDI, Deep Blue Chroma. That car - that color - it’s like a Dream, it is just „THE CAR“
It’s will be my First „high Classy“ car. I really like this Forum But this Thread makes me unsure.

After Reading Many Things about cleaning, (never did that to my Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback like described with wax and so on..) i found this and Well .. is this „Problem“ located to Europe / Germany too ? In German Forums i can't find much to read about that.

Or is this a Local Problem, depending on, where the car is built ?

Hi @Alagos ...I've seen some other users from Poland and Germany say they've had issues, too. Of course, the problem could have been solved by now on newer builds. Maybe see what kind of inventory your dealer has.

The Stingers are all built and painted in South Korea. There appear to be adhesion problems with the paint on some cars, though informal polling seems to indicate it is on a minority of vehicles (interpret those results as you will). On some of the affected cars, the problem is quite serious, but at this point in time it looks like KIA has acknowledged and will be addressing it.

Love that Deep Blue Chroma paint as well - not offered in our market, but I can't say I'm in any way disappointed with the the car I have.

One of a few quality issues that made me decide not to drop $50k on a GT2. Going with another brand.

I don‘t understand why some colors are Not everywhere available and i don’t understand why the color can’t be used on other Cars, for Example the Optima (SW GT) which would be my second choice.
I See, had Seen some Cars (no stinger) from Slovakia therefore i was asking if it’s regional - thanks for Info

What do you mean 1 of a few 'quality' issues? If anything, other than paint, the cars are performing amazingly well for a 1st year vehicle. With that attitude, thank you for going somewhere else and not trashing the car.

What in the blue hell are you trying to be compensated for? This whole 'entitlement' bullshit needs to stop. You have no idea what the tort/liability law is for, and this is plainly obvious. The reason companies pay is for unreasonable claims, JUST LIKE THIS, for nothing that hindered them in any way. This is one of the exact reasons why inflation is horrible because companies are paying exorbitant amounts of money for no reason other than people being greedy and 'entitled'.....

Yes, there are reasons that someone should be 'made whole' which usually involves some type of physical injury or disability resulting from the failure of a product and a manufacturer of said product not covering that problem. THAT is what enables you to claim a reasoning to for any type of financial compensation. A paint problem is in no way, shape, form, or fashion even REMOTELY in the realm of a reason a company would even begin to consider anything other than correcting the problem. No court in this country would even consider it either (hopefully, but i have seen idiots given money for their own stupidity).

There will never be any good reason for a company to give you anything other than a repair if something is wrong with a new vehicle, PAINT INCLUDED. Ask @KiaofMuncie how much BMW did for him with paint problems, ask owners of other BMWs with tinfoil valve trains and Audi/VW with spontaneously grenading turbos how much 'compensation' they received. Kia is doing everything right, so far, to at least make this right and show that they will stand behind their cars even if they have a problem. I don't want them to rethink that or pull back options for us because of 1-2 greedy people that don't even have a legit claim about problems or just want to try and troll people with a legit issue.

Hes not wrong. You guys seem to be defending a car company that seemingly dosent have the ability to properly paint a car. They arent your friends so why are you getting so defensive when people criticize them for failing at one of the easier processes of car manufacturing? There will be a depreciation hit for those who have to have paint work on their cars, there really is no argument against that. Vehicles with original paint are just worth more. I wouldn't pay full market price for any used car thats had major paint work done unless it was a well documented restoration, not some crappy warranty job from a factory screw up.

I think it's funny that you think someone on the used market will tell you if a car was repainted at all...

If the job is done properly, you won't be able to tell.

You know what, the hell with all of it. Shit on the company, car, whatever helps you sleep at night and makes you feel more 'entitled', 'due', made whole', 'vindicated' or whatever the hell you want to call it in your world. It will be fixed to the owners satisfaction and not some random opinion of someone with no issues or don't even own the car. I will have a solution soon and wish everyone the best who also opened a case.

So let me get this right Fonzi... You are criticizing Kia as a company who,"seemingly dosent(sic) have the ability to properly paint a car... for failing at one of the easier processes of car manufacturing?" If I understand you, and painting a car is one of the easier processes of car manufacturing, then why wouldn't you want one that had been repainted if it is so easy to get it right? Surely with such an easy process they would nail it the second time around right?

Truth is, there is little to no depreciation of the car's value for repainting provided no structures or body panel damage occurred. Even cars with damage suffer very little resale depreciation when they are properly repaired. Depreciation typically only occurs when the paint job or repair is of a poor quality performed by some entity other than a factory approved repairer. Furthermore, it is my guess that KIA will extend the paint warranty for any resprayed cars over and above the standard 3 years.

No one is being defensive, just not everyone thinks the sky is falling like you do. Please let me know when you find the perfect car manufacturer without any recalls attributed to them, I'll wait... For the record, the top 10 with recalls are 1) Ford 2) Chevrolet 3) BMW 4) Toyota 5) Dodge 6) Honda 7) GMC 8) Nissan 9) Volvo 10) Mercedes-Benz. Not a single company has zero recalls. Surely at least one should have zero recalls as easy as it is to make a car right?

Keep is civil guys.. everyone has an opinion and everyone is here to voice it.

I have chimed in a few times because it is sad to see a potential Stinger owner put off by the negativity in this thread. BUT it is their choice to be swayed by such discussions. To the people making the argument it is their right to do so. To all that disagree with the negativity it is also your right to do so.

Everyone should be heard and all we ask is that we treat each other with respect. If you are heated by a response, step away, take a breather and then come back and type up your post and read it over to make sure it is being constructive and contributes to the debate and conversation. Posts with no substance and only heat will serve neither side of the discussion.

When you say there is no argument for something and then another person provides a substantive argument for that same point and your only response is sarcasm and deflection, it is kind of hard to take you seriously on a forum. BTW, do you even own a Stinger?

So only actual owners are allowed to have an opinion? You're so inclusive and tolerant. Get over yourself. What is difficult to take seriously is an individual who seems to be suffering from such a severe inferiority complex about their car that they feel the need to justify and defend a pretty significant factory error which now seems is being covered up by Kia. There are some owners who are generally concerned about the issue and they need to be supported and not marginalized by Kia shills like you. Your "argument" re depreciation on a repaint is complete garbage. So we have two cars. One that was repainted by some anonymous body shop under a warranty claim and another car with factory paint that has now been corrected under a revised painting process at the factory. Which car are you going to pursue in the used market? Which car will you be willing to pay a higher price for with your hard earned dollars? Seriously, think it over. Why on earth do you think that a one year car with repainted panels is going to be worth as much as a car done properly at the factory? Furthermore, since owners are getting their front ends done when perhaps the entire car should be done, this problem is probably going to resurface on other panels later. Why would potential buyers want to open themselves up to this kind of hassle? If i did own an affected car I would do everything I could for Kia to buy the car back and start fresh either later when the issues are fixed at the factory (and not through a shady bandaid warranty solution) or with another brand. While what I am saying may be easily dismissed by you because I havent taken the plunge, its probably pretty important for Kia to know that for some, is what the perception of the situation is.
