About Requirement for Premium Gas

Hmmm, surprised it is not reasonably accessible since the EPA fuel economy stickers are in ever new car window and quoted ubiquitously.
Kia manual states Premium Recommended for both Stinger engines. So you can use Regular in both engines but the gas should be Top Tier. You are either happy to pay the extra for Premium or happy to save a few bucks on a tankful. YMMV

Does your manual have the sticker put in over top of the original language that said regular was fine, or have they caught-up at the print house now?

Regular is not a problem, but it likely does not achieve the rated power output or fuel economy so they had to revise the manual and marketing materials.

So my compromise is to use 89 or mid-grade.

Gas station I go to consistently charges 20 cents a gallon more for Premium (91) than regular (87). So we're talking ~$4 a fill up more... I use premium.

Why not 89?
My prior cars, MB320, BMW X5, Audi A6, Audi Q7 all have a sticker in the gas filler "91 Octane", so that's what I use. I'm a very low mileage driver. Today I turn in the Audi A6 on a 3 year lease.... 12,600 miles, but those are "LA Miles", which is a big reason that leasing makes sense for us.

L.A. miles are the worst miles.

I live in city of chicago gas is exspsive. So i go to suburbs and its still expensive. 93octane.

I'm a little confused, what does leasing makes sense to me with using 89 octane in your Stinger. Did you find the 91 octane sticker on your Stinger? I don't race or drive in a lot of traffic so I am splitting the difference of cost between prem. and reg. by using mid. range gas.

Strictly 91 here. It’s the highest offered. Found I get better mileage and better performance. Worth it in my book.

Here in the Great White North it's not uncommon for premium to be 20 cents per LITER more expensive - so about 80 cents per US gallon. That makes a considerable difference on a fill.

Having said that, while I know the car will run on 87 (with a small penalty in performance and mileage), I'm still pouring 91 octane down it's neck - I'm afraid I've fallen for the car in a big way, and can't help spoiling it ... :p

I just took delivery of the Stinger and got home. The difference between 89 and 91, 10 cents a gallon, is not a game changer for me.
If I drive 4,000 miles a year, and get 300 miles per fill up, that's 13.33 fill ups per year. At $2 per fill up delta from 89 to 91, we're talking $27 a year more for 91 than 89.... if I did the math correctly.

No sticker at all on the fuel filler.

10 cents per US gallon is a no-brainer. Unfortunately the cost is many multiples of that in other locations.

I was looking at the difference of reg. to prem., .20 cents per gal. My fill ups are normally 14 gal. 14x.20 = $2.80 I fill up 2.5 times per month times $2.80 = $7.00 per month. If I used mid grade (89) I would cut that in half or $3.50 per month. Now that I look at it that way, I just might start using Prem. Thanks for the exercise.

You only drive 4,000 miles per year?

I put 4K miles on mine in the first three months. In a couple of weeks I am going up to Seattle and back, another c. 2K miles round trip; plus "being there".

If you are asking Paul32, I'll let him answer.
If you are asking me, yes, 4,000 is about right. I just returned my Audi A6 on a 36 month lease with 12,700 miles.
I travel at least a week per month, sometimes 2 weeks per month.

Yes, I was asking you. Your example based on 4k per year was far below the norm. But, even at 12k or more the cost for prem. is not that bad.
