Has anyone else experienced blindspots for changing lanes? I am thinking I need to add blindspot mirrors to the bottom of my side view mirrors.

I don't think I've ever had a car without blindspots. I use my 3 mirrors and turn my head to look out of the window before making any lane changes.

The little mirrors certainly wouldn't hurt but I'd recommend turning your head to verify, regardless of what you see in the mirrors.

Perfect avatar for the question in hand! :D

Yes, I think the blind spot detection waits just a bit too long until the overtaking or overtaken vehicle is not far enough away before turning on/off. I always set my outside mirrors a bit farther out than the side of the car so it covers more of the adjacent lanes, then I still turn my head to check. Not worth the damage if you're wrong.

As stated, very few vehicles don't have blind spots, some are way worse than others. As a motorcyclist, I tend to know what's around me at all times, but nobody is perfect and mistakes are made. I've never hit anyone but almost been hit many times, especially on the freeways around here.

I added those to mine

Never had a vehicle without blindspots of some kind. Just set the mirrors out the proper distance and combine that with some back and forth head movement to make sure you clear the lane you are moving into. I've driven numerous vehicles with no rear visibility, so the mirrors are the only option available.

Most people set their side mirrors far too close in. You don't need to see the side of your car - there's a good chance it's still where you left it ... :p

fwiw, I have them on all of my vehicles as well - motorcycles included. I cut the round ones in half for the smaller mirrors on my 'bikes. It irritates me to drive friends or rental cars that don't have them.. :D

I find the blind spot monitors do an excellent job foe what my mirrors dont catch !

Engage lane departure warning, it’s a good function to reduce this issue.

100% engaged. I did end up moving my mirrors out more (yes, I could still see my car somewhat---sigh...).

Thanks for all the replies!
