Cylinder 1+5+Random misfire detected. RaceChip GTS Black

That Race Chip is now recommending gapping stock plugs down for use with their products. Ergo.. exactly what I said needed be done despite them claiming otherwise originally. You'd be surprised how many times I've seen "tuners" overlook basic combustion mechanics.
Lol what did you tell me?

Yeah lol basically thanks to me, until I bought my chip and made the thread everyone was saying it works perfect no changes needed.

It does still seem so far though that I am, to my knowledge, the only person that experienced these issues so far.

According to your first post it seemed like you were only driving in "Sport" mode while using 91 octane.
EDIT: RaceChip was in the default setting of 5 and in "Sport" drive mode.

In another thread you admitted now, that you were driving in Race mode while using 91 octane.
Yes. To be honest while I had mine, it ran better in Race mode than Sport. I basically had it in Race mode only and the car in sport. Thing rocked and was wicked fast I scared my passengers.

I got 1 check engine light, cleared It then it ran good again for a couple days. It wasn't till I knocked the chip down to sport as well that I started having big issues.

This is sad, because it makes a big difference for us. It is very important to get very precise information about any issue.

And it has an impact on what everybody else in this forum thinks about RaceChip. We recommended to use the Race mode only with 93 octane.

So with this updated information, please let me emphasize following:
  1. There has not been a single issue yet with a RaceChip used with 93 octane.
  2. There has not been a single issue yet with a RaceChip where the maximum setting used was "Sport" (or 5).
However, we will not change our recommendation again. It's a fact that Kia has some issues with their spark plugs.

All the information I've posted has been accurate. Sorry if there is confusion as there is information scattered around 2-3 different threads at this point.

The issue pertaining to this thread (Cylindar 1/5/random misfire) all occured with the Chip in "Sport" mode. People were aksing what mode and setting I was in when this happened. That's where that edit comes from. That being said, I've said before in these forums that I pretty much always had the chip in Race mode prior to this. It's hard to pin-point what mode is causing issues when there are 27 different possible combinations between the car and the chip.

I've always stressed that I believe I am the first to experience issues with the RaceChip and I've said that it may have been caused by damage over time from being in Race mode. While it worked for me, it was fantastic.

You may wish to clear this up in other areas as well.

So it wasn't in Race mode at the time you noticed the problem, but it had been in Race mode previously, yes?

I think he's saying it WAS in sport mode when the problems arose but previously was in race mode.

I'm always up to help and answer any questions people may have, but, with respect, it isn't my job to go and clear everything up. It's a buyers job to do their research and all my information is here in the forums. I have no control if people are talking about me or paraphrasing me incorrectly. If you see it, tag me and I can help clear up the best I can.

I used the RaceChip for about a week in all modes, Efficency, Sport and Race. Stinger was also in Eco, Comfort and Sport as I was trying out different combinations. I drove mostly in Chip-Race + Stinger-Sport and managed to do a 500km road trip with no issues. I brought the Chip down to Sport mode and drove around, then got hit with all these issues. I cannot give any more details. It may have been doing damage over time since I installed it and purely fluke that it blew when I dropped the chip to Sport. Who knows.

I haven't installed the chip since, and while prior to this RaceChip was saying it works perfectly with stock vehicles, they've now come out and recommended regapped spark plugs and 93 octane... so, you're welcome Stinger owners. I've sold my chip pending a meet this weekend and I'm wiping my hands clean of this RaceChip stuff. I installed it for a week, and it broke my car, the data is out there if people wanna investigate and draw up conclusions. I am not doing any further testing and risking damage to my vehicle.

IF Kia releases a TSB with better or regapped plugs, I may then look into tuning again as when the RaceChip was working good, it was unbelivable the difference it made. At the end of the day, the Chip works and does an incredible job, under the right conditions. I am choosing to wait.
