Hi All,

Second post regarding the 2022 Stinger GT2 we just purchased. Having some peculiar issues with the ISG.

First off it does not seem to actually stop the engine regardless of the switch amber LED and dash icon status.

When the deactivation switch is not amber LED, the icon is white. But my understanding is that the icon should always be green for ready or orange for conditions not met. Anyone know what a white icon mean?

Driving home from work today, I messed with toggling the switch. And somehow ended up in a scenario where the white icon is on all the time, but every time i stopped the switch amber LED came on. And went off when I accelerated from a stop.

Kind of concerned it’s a problem with the head unit and we may have bought a lemon as having some other weird issues with green sparkles on the 360 camera and random proximity sensors going off. Or maybe the previous owner hacked the ISG.

Anyhow, any input is appreciated. Thanks.

The most common reason for conditions not being met is battery state of charge. My 2022 GT1 ISG hasn't worked in at least 2 years due to the battery state of charge being too low. Honestly you're better off with ISG not working. The starter on these cars is in a horrible location for replacement.

As for the behavior of the LED I'm not 100% sure but if you check the owners manual it'll tell you everything about what the LED on the button and what the display should show for different states.

if it's like our honda, white means the system is on but not doing anything. green means the engine has been stopped as the conditions were met. yellow means something is preventing the stop from occurring.

note that random things like seat belt fastened, steering wheel angle, etc. are on the list of requirements for start stop to function. but bfglitch is right- you want nothing to do with ISG. I disabled that crap months after I got the car 6 years ago. who thought stopping the AC compressor at a light was a good idea??

Thanks. Definitely appreciate both the reply’s.

It’s definitely not a great feature. We have it on our other vehicle (2023 Hyundai Palisade) and I stuck a piece of a rewards card down next to the button to keep it pressed.

More just trying to figure out the weird behavior and understand the vehicle and if it’s been modified.

The fact the auto stop icon is always white is the weird part. Like our palisade I would expect it to be green (when it activates) or orange when stopped and it doesn’t activate.

Do either of you have a white symbol all b the time when ISG is active?

Thanks

at least on my 2019GT2 dashboard, the symbol doesn't light up unless it's green or yellow. It's a separate bulb like the rest of the indicators in the center area of the tach, roughly around the 5k rpm marker. I have the 7 inch center display between the tach and speedo. nothing appears on the center display regarding ISG.

For me, ISG hardly ever kicks on. Seems having the sunroof open non-stop makes it way less likely to kick in. If you turn off climate controls completely it'll kick in more often, especially if outside air temp is near your set point. Try shutting off climate controls after a longer drive and just before sitting at a bunch of stop lights. You also need slightly more brake pressure than it takes to hold the car to activate it.... just enough before the auto-hold engages.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like some of the earlier stingers the ISG indicator is a bulb that is either amber or green? Ours is a 2022 so first year after the refresh and the indicator is part of the dash digital display. Anyone else with a 2022 or 2023 know what it means when the icon is white instead of amber or green, even when stopped?

Before I disabled it, a white icon in the gauge cluster on my 2022 GT LTD (Canadian model in case you didn't know) meant that the system was on and ready to go in case all criteria were met.

Green icon in the cluster meant that the engine actually turned off when I stopped. Amber light on the console next to the switch means ISG is turned off, no light on the console means ISG is good to go. Occasionally the amber light would come on if some criteria wasn't met.

What I noticed was that my OEM battery ran at a low voltage - it would be stuck between 11.4 and 11.7 unless I've done a lot of driving. That meant that ISG never had the voltage criteria was never meat unless I was on a long road trip. I tried changing it with a LiFePo4 battery which meant that ISG worked because the voltage was good, but a series of mishaps with that battery meant that not only did I switch back to a fresh AGM battery, but I did the resistor trick to permanently disable ISG.

If I had to venture a guess, I think your battery might have low voltage. My best suggestion is to try to find a way to check your battery voltage while your car is on, but not running. My Xtool will do it on OBD2 connector, but it's expensive. If you have an OBD2 scanner, or maybe one of those cheap accessory port scanners you can get for ~$15 USD would work. If your car with the engine off but otherwise on reads less than 12V, you might have a parasitic drain or your battery might be weak and need replacing.

Thank you that is really good info. What is the behavior once you do 'the resistor trick'. Does the icon turn on and off with the button, but just stay white all the time? Wondering if the previous Owner did the same thing. Thanks.

The amber led next to the button on the console is always on. No icon in the gauges at all.

The resistor trick should be outlined in the forums. It does the same that an ISG eliminate module did but for less than $1 US

Thanks. Don’t think it’s a resistor installed in my case then - I’ll check the battery. Appreciate it.

i did resistor trick pretty much first week i had the car :D ('22 GT2) ... no icon at all in the dash. its my favorite "mod". the battery is big and not cheap, and starter replacement requires engine removal - no thanks. AC shutting off sitting at a stop in summer is a "hell no", also.
