Pretty, pretty, bad Recall Experience SC300

Had to register an account just to chime in with my current experience. Recieved the notice at 75k miles took it to the dealership here in Maryland. I out it off for a while due to the tine I knew they would need it and my spider sense about dealerships. Never had an issue with the car as long as I had it except maybe replacing some tires.
After the recall was done I'm told I now have an oil leak from the oil pan and the timing cover. I go back and forth with them because I didn't have any issues before. One day after I get my car back I start smelling burnt oil and seeing white smoke from the driver side. I take it to a trusted shop in the neighborhood. He finds some missing bolts that were not replaced here and there and finds the leak isn't from the timing cover or oil pan. It's coming from the valve cover on the same side as where the recall work was performed. The oil is leaking from the valve cover hitting the converter.
Now the issue I'm contemplating is do I take the car back to the dealership and have them address thier potential shoddy work or pay extra $$ to have a seperate shop address it.
 
Pay extra and submit bill to dealership for their incompetence¿?

Reading this thread just confirms my decision to not have this done at any time in the near future.
I don't drive my car much, as it's not my daily driver, so I don't pile up the miles (kms in my case).
It will be years before I accumulate any significant distance. In my case, if it's not broken, I'm not fixing it.

I would like to see what prompted this recall. I haven't seen threads this line exploded or started leaking. If it did how many miles on the odometer when it started leaking or happened?

I’d be suspicious that the dealership purposely loosened the valve covers bolts to create the issue. The missing bolts also speaks to sloppy/intentional bad work leading to future problems for you.

There is no way I would ever go back to that dealership. Get it fixed/corrected at your trusted shop.

You may want to contact Kia corporate to complain about the work that dealership did.

There were a few people on here who had the feed line start leaking on them prior to the recall being released.

It's kind of tricky w/ that splash pan to discover some drips, but a leak in that area would probably result in smoke from the exhaust area. I like to explore under the motor whenever I do my oil changes just to see if anything is amiss. I'm still nervous about my upcoming recall (In 3weeks) hopefully they'll have the process down over there at Genesis of Las Vegas.
 
Welp, quick update. I took it back to the dealer to see what ther response would be. After talking to the service manager she had me speak directly with the tech who who looked at my car this time. Tech explained how another tech did the first diagnosis and the recall repair. Both the service manager and the tech stated the car was dry, they didn't see any leaks coming from the oil pain, timing cover , or valve cover. (Hmmm funny because at first you told me there were leaks coming from the oil pan and timing cover). The tech did mention that after driving it for a while he did see the smoke and detected a leak. But not from the work of the oil recall, but from a new source. He believes it's leaking from the oil sensor. But the only way to be sure and check it/ or replace involves removing the top half of the engine. Approx $3k in parts and labor.
Needless to say I'm not having them do anymore work on my car since they seem to contradict themselves the first time they diagnose the leak. I'm not sure who thw firatvtwch was but this tech seemed to have his shit together and was up front. But I'm also not sure I want to spend 3k to fix an oil sensor. If it's that much labor to fix an oil sensor I might as well rebuild the entire top end.

Just an FYI regarding that EASY TO REPLACE oil pressure sensor...

It's actually quite an easy job, as detailed here.

I also have extreme doubts that your oil pressure sensor is suddenly leaking oil post oil feed pipe recall - they are lying to you.


ALSO ALSO, almost nobody, nobody that I have read about, has experienced an oil pressure switch leaking. They have failed, failed to report correctly the electronic signal. But I have not yet read about one that has been confirmed to be leaking. Take that with a grain of salt.

ALSO ALSO ALSO, using a boroscope, it is exceedingly EASY to inspect the oil pressure switch for leaks. There is only one single piece of foam that needs to be removed in order to stick a boroscope directly over the oil pressure switch.

Oh yeah, also forgot to mention how the missing bolts miraculously reappeared when I picked the car up.
