Pretty, pretty, bad Recall Experience SC300

OMG, that's awful. I'm so sorry. I finally got my car back after 8 days and everything seems to be working fortunately. Except for the lane keep assist and automatic wipers/rain detection. Dealer said they're fine/not throwing any error codes (my personal OBDLink says the same) and I wasn't gonna let them keep my car longer to MAYBE get those fixed.

As much as I love my stinger, dealing with their service departments has totally turned me off the brand. They ALWAYS f*ck something up, two steps forward one step back.

I'm just under 25K, but doing it because it seems like the "right" thing to do. I love my stinger, but will never buy Kia again due to the dealer/service experience.
I did the same thing. Booked it as soon as I could. Took the day off just to be told at 4:30pm before they were closing that they couldn’t do it because of the side skirts (ground effect kit) that I have on it. Something about not being able to get it on the lift unless I take it off. I won’t be doing that anytime soon. But I do wonder if anyone else had heard of that with their dealership?

This is how you are supposed to lift a Stinger without damaging the rocker panels, or in your case "side skirts"

But many shops don't even hit the pinch welds, let alone use a wood block to distribute the weight.

That’s a great idea. I definitely didn’t think of that and neither did they for that matter. I really didn’t want to have to take the side skirt kit off for something like that. Now just getting them to actually use wood blocks might be another challenge. They mentioned the side skirts would have to come off even for me to get an oil change done with them. I’m willing to cut a few blocks of wood for them to use but whether they do or not is to be seen. I definitely won’t be taking them off for simple things like oil changes though. Especially when this method seems the easiest and best way to get around it all. I appreciate it a lot. Thank you so much for giving me this idea. I’ll update you guys and let you know whether or not they used this method.

I assume @D'MO has aftermarket side skirts...

Yeah, I got a complete ground effects kit. They even mentioned that there’s a possibility they would want me to take off the front splitter as well. Obviously that’s going overboard at this point. Maybe I’ll just go ahead and take off every panel of the car and show up with a shell.

Gorgeous car -

The technician who denied being able to put that on a hoist, unbelievable.

That is one of the mildest side skirt body kits. It is so easy to put on the lift. Unbelievably lazy if you ask me - speaking about the Kia technician

Exactly what I said. It’s fairly flush with the car. We had a back and forth and it’s obvious they just didn’t want to do it. Especially since it took him till they were about to close to tell me, after me dropping it off 8 o’clock in the morning. They must’ve waited till 4 to even bring it in the bay. Ridiculous. I guess we’ll see what happens. Thanks for the input though. I appreciate it a lot.

They'll just claim a loss of structural rigidity and not want to lift it.

How are Kia shops using their lifts without creasing the side skirts?
Most hoist arms I've seen have these flip up feet which can be easily flipped into position.
The middle option has always worked for me.

Easy peasy.

By using them correctly. The shop that uses the wood blocks does that so that the pinch weld points don't take the full weight of the car. Because some cars see those fold over. I don't think that the Stinger is one of them, but the mechanic used extra precaution. If I recall correctly, some Stingers have had the rocker panels deformed even in KIA shops because the morons placing the lift "feet" don't make sure that they are positioned correctly. This picture of a 2.0L is from years ago in the KIA dealership that I go to. You can see how the arms have been positioned to put the feet under the pinch weld or jack points. If you don't get them all the way under the frame, the rocker panels end up taking some of the weight, and presto, crushed plastic.

I can definitely see what you’re talking about. It makes a lot of sense for sure. Thank you. I appreciate that.

When I put my own car on a hoist - it looks like this.

Without flipping the feet up - it looks like this -... If the car was not dead center on the lift - this would have hit

Kia stinger - side skirt on lift!

Excellent reveal! Without any doubt that sleeve is what has crushed numerous rocker panels shared on here. Careless, clueless, witless buffoons masquerading as mechanics. They just kick those hoist arms in under there and lift away.

I appreciate this a whole lot. The actual visual especially with the video makes so much more sense. Thank you so much for sharing this. It’s very helpful.
