Hey all, I recently put an Injen Intake on my 2023 Stinger GT2. I was experiencing an issue every couple of months where my car would go into limp mode with a check engine light when the turbo psi was high and it was typically cooler outside. I could never get the car in to the dealership in time as the light would reset shortly after. Since putting new intakes on I've been experiencing this issue more frequently due to higher airflow. Fortunately I was able to get the car in today, but the dealership says they can't fix the issue since it has after market intakes on. Dealership says the check engine code is for turbo overflow and recommended having the car tuned since it has those intakes. I have a BurgerMotorsports JB4 that I have yet to install, and I was curious if that could fix my issue or if there are different steps recommended? Thanks!

I know about this by reading on here. The '22 refresh included valved exhaust and that produced occasional "limp mode" from over-boost. It isn't a problem that you can replicate on demand because turning the car off resets everything. By adding aftermarket parts you start playing a juggling game. Yes, intakes require a tune of some sort. Then if you mess around with aftermarket exhaust that adds another element, and now you get to juggle fuel mix and mapping, etc. Have fun! Ima surprised that the dealer recommended more aftermarket stuff as the solution. It sounds like they are saying, "we won't work on your car unless you get more aftermarket parts on it." Eh?

Yup, 22+ Stingers have a tendency to overboost especially in cold weather. It'll even do it with stock intakes. Happens even more when you add aftermarket intakes and/or exhaust. Dealership won't do anything to troubleshoot it with the aftermarket stuff on it and even if you did revert it to stock, I'm pretty sure the dealership won't be able to "replicate the issue" because most of them won't (officially) drive the car the way it needs to in order to trigger the overboost. For me it usually happens when I'm either at a stop or travelling at a fairly low speed and give it a decent amount of go pedal. For me, I believe it's the shift between 2nd and 3rd while in full boost when it usually winds up overboosting. If you do decide to go back to stock and bring it back to the dealership, you'll probably have to go on a drive with the technician to show them the issue.
Personally I've just learned to drive it the way it is and back off a bit before the shift.

but didn't you say you are going to put the jb4 on it anyway?
don't you think that will just "solve" the problem by basically ignoring it via a tune?
(btw I'm not saying that's a problem, the factory ECU is clearly just too sensitive and makes a non issue into an issue)

That was my solution too, and haven't had an issue since.
After doing a bit more digging the issue seems to be coming from the wastegate not being properly tuned by the factory, and Burger Motorsports sells an add on that allows you to adjust the WG fixing the problem. I ordered mine, and I'll let you know down the road if it fixes it.

That is big news in that someone actually found the root-cause of the issue!
I wonder if Kia can fix it with a flash upgrade?

pretty sure that mod won't address the root cause, it will just tell the ECU not to do anything
frankly, it kind of goes to show how fast these turbos build boost, which is the fastest of any turbo car I've ever driven
a wastegate simply can't respond quick enough to not have a short period of overboost

I think Lap3 ecu tune has a built in overboost protection.
Can BEF from terry with ek1 do that too? If someone has jb4 already and not going for full ecu tune, that would be a nice option.
I put the JB4 on with ewg connectors and still have this issue.

Waiting for Arc Downpipes and CK71 to come in then my buddy and I are gonna install everything including that. He's looking into the settings that need changed. Sorry I don't have an answer yet
I've had the overboost since new (stock 23) car has always been warmed up and usually happened after a hwy cruise. Come off the hwy, stop and accelerate normally. Then,Over boost limp mode no check engine light. Shut car off immediately. It resets and have boost. Get into it a bit and overboost (check engine light) P0234 so damn frustrating. Had it into kia a few times. Nothing found. 20000kms
This last time after being frustrated it's happened so many times. They smoke tested the system, no leaks. Checked the waste gate operation, no issues. Ensured boost pressure sensors were working, no problem. The one thing they found was a recirculation valve solenoid was overheating. They are going to replace the recirculation valve and valve solenoid. If this works I would be amazed but at least they are looking a little more in depth into the issue.
