Hello all,

I'm usually a little more active but I've been busy lately with my new job. Earlier today I finally got some time to head to a Dynojet and get 3 runs in (the 1st was just a practice run). The 2 good runs are posted below. All runs were done with Shell 93 octane pump gas and my mod list is in my signature.

My past dyno results are no good due to operator error. These current results are from a different shop and are correct. I've noticed that the Racechip GTS in map 7 is pretty much comparable to the JB4 in map 2 after looking at some dyno sheets and dyno videos. I don't want to debate which piggyback is better than the other, this is just an observation I had.

Looks like I'm at the limits of pump gas and I'm not really interested in running E30.

Not a single comment from the JB4 crowd. Interesting.
Maybe because I appreciate every's choice of tunes, I wouldn't bash someone for enjoying their car. Even though I'm moving to an LAP3 ECU tune, I would still recommend the Racechip GTS (especially if you can get one on sale) for Stinger GT owners that want a simple plug-n-play piggyback tune. The JB4 is of course more modular and can log but it doesn't mean the Racechip GTS is garbage. Racechip is a sizable company in Europe that make products for VW, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, etc. I don't believe they would just release garbage. I monitor everything with a 3rd party OBD2 Scanner/Reader, which cost me 40 dollars for the Bluetooth dongle and app so one can still log if they desire to.

A fair sentiment I don't see too often.

I've been researching RaceChip because I'd like something that's easy to remove when having service work done, and I couldn't help but notice every time someone posts about RC, at least 2 or 3 JB4 fanboys will jump on the thread and crap all over it. This is the first time I've come across a direct performance comparison between RC and JB4, and it pretty much confirms the RC reviews out there for our platform (I say "our" but technically I own a G70.) Just surprised after seeing clear documentation that RC gives you the same performance for way less money as JB4 on 93, that no one jumped in to crap on your post.

Although I am currently leaning toward an ECU tune as it seems as easy to swap an ECU as it is take out the RC, I want to thank you for providing data I haven't come across before. Certainly removes doubts about missing performance if all I plan to do is gap spark plugs and run on 93 octane.

Thanks, that means a lot. My goal on these forums is to share my experiences with the car with zero BS. Since I only want a mild tune, I'll go with the LAP3 stage 1 ECU flash. Even though the stage 1 is for 91 octane David Chung confirmed that the ECU tune has adaptive fuel maps and will adjust to 93 octane gas.

I bought the spare ECU used, I just haven't sent it back to LAP3 for reflashing yet

The Katana? Unfortunately that's not for sell. I've had that sword since 2012.
if i want to get the race chip gts, only because i dont want to go all out and put so much money into this car, i just want something where i can gain some hp without spending thousandsss, do i have to regap my plugs to 0.022-0.024? or is 0.028 fine? because my hks came pregapped 0.028.
i have just a few mods done but no tuning at all. would a racechip be right just to add such little more power?

I’ve had a RC tune in my Stinger for awhile with Map7 working cleanly on 93+ Octane.

Yeah, I already noticed all the JB4 fanboy jumping was just FUD.

The RC, especially the GTS. Is a very strong option if you just care about a mild tune and are not interested in working with water injections or E-30 mixes.

Glad to see some solid results although I already guess-estimated from a few Mexico runs that a full stock, spark plug re-gapped, Stinger with the RC GTS should net between 400-420 HP.

388 wheel HP is around 455 HP which is a healthy increase from the advertised 365 HP.

We offer both options. Piggyback tunes add power by increasing boost, and it's important to note that the power gain is consistent across different brands when the same amount of boost is applied. The brand logo on the box doesn't influence the performance. What sets various tunes apart are their unique features. Debating over which piggyback tune yields more power is less relevant, particularly since you have the option of custom mapping to adjust the PSI to your preference.

would me getting a racechip even tho im basically FBO affect the RC ? would it make it basically useless or not work? and would i have to gap my plugs to 0.024 or is 0.028 enough

Your bolt ons would help but only a little. You would need to reset the ECU (easy process) to let the car rebuild it's fuel trims, the extra airflow from your bolt ons will affect the car's fuel trims. This is one of the reasons I upgraded to a ECU tune, an ECU tune is more adaptable.

I had my plugs gapped at 0.026 while I had my RC GTS.

I'll add that the limits of just 93 pump gas with no meth or ethanol mix on stock turbos is about 400~430 wheel HP. To go higher will require meth, ethanol, or unleaded race gas.

So id have to reset the ecu after putting on the racechip?
and honestly thats perfect, 400-430 whp is my main goal. something thats gona usually be fast enough to overtake and have fun in traffic. Im at 370whp rn with just bolt ons, so i just wanted the RC to hit that 390-410 mark *hopefully*.

Yeah. You reset the ECU by driving around for about 15mins then unplugging the ECU (while the car is off) for around 5mins. Plug is ECU back up and start driving like normal, including some pulls here and there. The ECU should be adapted after 200 miles or so.

About to hook up the RC soon . My plugs are gapped at 0.028 . Is that okay or should I buy new ones and gap them lower ?

A .028 gap is good, anything between .024 and .028 will work just fine. HKS M45IL are the best plugs for the Stinger, they're pricey but worth it. I was surprised I still had the RC manual PDF on my computer (see below). My HKS M45IL plugs were gapped at .026 when I used the RC.

Do you know if RC takes off the govern speed limit ? I’m stuck at 167. Curious if the RC takes it away or is there a way to get rid of it

No, the RC doesn't. The only way to lift the limiter is with a ECU tune. For example, my Lap3 ECU tune disables speed limiter. A saw a video where a guy pushed a Lap3 tuned Stinger GT to 187mph which is most likely the aerodynamic top speed limit.

Damn .. thanks a lot Brodie .
